Stillen catback + MD ART test pipes = Major Rasp???
Stillen catback + MD ART test pipes = Major Rasp???
I don't know if the shop did something wrong but I have a the stillen catback and recently had the ART pipes installed and around 3k Rpm the Rasp is really bad... or maybe it's the buzzing but I told the shop to cut the bolts but I'm not sure if they did because they said it wasn't touching the bolts when they installed it... so I have my doubts...
Anyways could that be the reason of major rasp? Or them not installing it properly? Man I feel like my car sounds like a civic now...
Anyone have any suggestions or input? BTW I have an 04 MT coupe

You will buzz like a **** if the shop either didn't trim or trimmed very little of that driver's side bolt. Even if the bolt isn't touching the ART pipe during install the exhaust's height does change while under load and it will cause the ART pipe to graze that bolt.
The sound will drive you nuts. Make sure that the shop will trim that bolt as much as possible to avoid any possibility of contact with the ART pipe.

Thanks for the replies! Does anyone know if I can just jack up the car and trim the bolt? What tool or cutter will do the trick?
The sound seems like it's coming from the test pipes themselves and not from the back of the exhaust. Also when I let off the gas I hear a loud hissing type sound only if it's in gear and I let it slow down by itself. Is that normal?

You can use a bolt cutter to snap it off easily. You can even use a heavy duty pair of dikes but it will take a little time to chew through. The stud is a little more than 1/8" thick steel.
NOTE: Even if the exhaust shop says it wasn't touching when they installed them, it will once you put the engine under load. The engine twists slightly when you hit the gas and that is when it will come in contact with the stud.

Bump! Did your rasp ever go away? I installed my ART Pipes on Saturday. I trimmed the bolt before install but have the same rasp between 2500-3000 rpms under heavy acceleration.
