What I am looking for is a DEEP sounding exhaust, with no rasp or drone, that isn't too loud(med increase is ok, as I live in a townhome), and I do not want rotten smells. Also, of coarse I am looking for the most HP with in the above criteria
In reply to:

That describes the Borla. IMO the Borla has the best sound and the best look. A lot of people complain about the drone from the Stillen. There is no drone with the Borla.

Re: Looking for exhaust experts!

From what I read:

Stillen - People claim it hands down puts the most power out and sounds the best at WOT, but most complain it's just overall too loud for day to day driving. Also, people say it looks the best.

Borla - Doesn't look as good, but much less expensive which is good. Not as much power as Stillen, no where near as loud, but still sounds deep and good. There have been complaints of drones in the 2000-2500 RPM range but it's not that bad.

Most people don't really complain about the Stillen droning. It's not really a drone, it's just too plain loud when the car is under load at ANY RPM. Drones are usually reserved for constant tones at any given RPM that are annoying and not outside of that RPM range. The Stillen just makes a boat load of noise at any RPM.

Re: Looking for exhaust experts!

I am really tore between the borla and the stillen.

Stillen Pros:
22hp
weighs 13 less than stock

Stillen Cons:
Might be too loud
Definitely has drone

Borla Pros:
No Drone
Not to loud

Borla Cons:
only 6-9hp (1/3 the power gain of stillen)

I suppose one could also change to high flow cats if you were to go with the borla, in hopes of gaining more power. THe bad side of that is, than you are spending over $1000($500 more than I would like to spend)

If I did the stillen, I would be stuck as there would be really nothing that could be done to quiet the exhaust down, as high flow cats would make it louder(I would guess).

If I bought the Stillen for $500-600 I could resell it if I couldn't stand it. If I bought the Borla for the same price, I would want to spend another $400-500 on highflow cats, most likely te crawford cats. Am I missing anything?

I think you are putting too much stock in the HP gains. Are you really going to notice 4 HP? No. The most important thing here is the sound and looks.

If you add high flow cats to the Borla you will make it louder. That may make it too loud for your liking.

Just something to think about.

Skeleton_Cru is right, if you care so much about power, then you bought the wrong car.

Just get one that you enjoy listening too.

Re: Looking for exhaust experts!

I put alot of stock into hp, as I feel my 2004.5 sedan 6mt is lacking on power and more importantly torque. I just came from a 97 bmw 540/6spd, so I am trying to gain as much hp as possible, in fact I am strongly looking at a supercharger currently. I like the G, but I feel it is VERY under powered for my likes, especially at the upper RPMs, it seems to lose its pep after ~5k. I really want bang for the buck, without waking up the neighbors when I come home at 3am. The stillen has 22hp, where the most I have seen from the borla is 9hp(for sedan), 13hp IMO is ALOT when you do a cost/hp ratio compared to other parts for our cars. From what I read the Crawford cats and plenium are good choices for bang for the buck hp also, along with the stillen intake w/Z tube.

Yeah but 10hp isn't going to make your car night and day faster? The stillen will wake up sensitive neighbors.

Re: Looking for exhaust experts!

I think I might save the $500-1,000 and put that towards a blower. Than you will be right, 10hp won't mean much to me if I have ~400hp:-) It seems I might be able to pick up a used supercharger for around $4,000. Any thoughts on superchargers, obviously I will check out the FI forum

Anyone have a sound clip of the Stillen? How bout Stillen vs. Borla? I heard the one with Stock vs. Borla and the Borla didn't really sound that much deeper to me.

look at my post from the gruppe-s y pipe thread. the y pipe installed car sounds better esp from 4000 up. they are coming out with high flow cats also bolt in. this way your car will be louder and will gain hp but you wont waste 500 bucks on a loud exhaust.

btw my buddy has the y pipe with anoter manf. high flow cat set up in and the car does sound louder and deeper. but doesnt bother you while drving. once you get on it above about 4000 you hear the car nicely

HP or Sound

I'm a new G35 owner looking for another exhaust that's quiet and not as "tinny" as stock. HP gains are not that important to me and I agree with the response here that said if you're looking for drag racing power, you've got the wrong car.

I own a supercharged Acura Integra that will run circles around my stock G35 coupe. I've blown the doors off EVERY stock G35 that's had the ***** to try my GSR. No brag intended, it's a power to weight ratio advantage of 2600 pounds and 230 HP at the wheels.

My point is not to diss the G35; I bought one and I love it. If you want ***** out performance out of a G35, you're going to spend some serious dollars to get it.

Am I correct in thinking the consensus is to go with the "Fuji" for a quiet free flow exhaust with a lower tone and reasonable cost?

I'd love to hear some user comparisons of the Borla and Fuji - anyone tried both?
