should i upgrade to megan racing headers?

My '06 6mt is currently set up with a Mrev2 and the spacers, Stillen cat back, stillen intake/ztube combo. Would adding a megan header be worth it? I read somewhere on this forum that you would only get an extra 3-5 HP gain but the seller say its going to be 10 -15 HP. I also read somewhere that it might set off your check engine light. Any advices or recommendations?

I don't have personal experience with headers, but from everything I've read on these forums, headers are def not worth the money and gains on our Gs....

You might as well get ART Pipes, or a HFC...much easier to install and much better gains...

Once you get that and tune the car, I say the only next step would be a turbo kit...

dunno that upgrade and megan headers is being used properly.

sellers always inflate numbers, I'd say no go on any headers until you are doing or planning to do cams.

Keep in mind that with the tight space down there, the labor to change out headers in our cars sucks and can cost a lot or just be a lot of work for yourself. With that in mind, because our cars burn so hot, it isn't ideal to put cheap headers or test pipes on the car as the welds will and have broken on many people. Thinking about the work it's going to take to change out the headers a second time just gives me a headache...

With that said, Megan Headers are cheap knock-offs of the DC Sports headers design, but probably aren't as well finished on the inside. And while differences might be minute, they probably won't provide as good of a flow as the original DC Sports parts. After installing DC Sports headers in my car and getting dyno tuned, these things netted about 3 hp, quite far from the 10+ hp claims of the seller.

Like others have said here, headers are not worth the money until you've done everything else. And if you are set on getting headers, look for another brand if the ones you're looking at may set off your check engine light.

And if those are all the mods you have, you might want to look into UpRev Osiris instead.

Glad I found this thread...I was looking into some headers as well lol! My car is basically stock but I found a guy on the net selling some (supposedly) Stillen headers for $300. After looking at his pics...those aren't Stillen headers :/ Anyways, I had the fever at the point for some headers. I take it the OEM headers on our cars are pretty sufficient for milded modded cars? Again, thanks for the advice, WHEN I do go to buy headers, I will go with a good brand. Had no thought about the welds popping leaks on the cheap stuff.

Which by the way...what part of the G35 seems to be the "bottleneck" for the aspiration system? Cat converters, intake, etc....where should I look to upgrading. I have a MD spacer and what looks like an aftermarket short ram intake pipe and filter...I got the car used.

best power gains for the price at as follows

Non-Rev
Plenum Spacer
K&N Panel filter
Z-Tube
HiFlow Cats/Test pipes
Y-Pipe or Full exhaust
Tune

If you have Rev-Up get a Mrev2 before spacer, also headers will do better on a Rev-Up

only after you do all other bolt ons should you even consider headers. without a tune headers will not do much for you, and in some cases you will lose power (esp low end)

I also probably wouldn't do headers again if I didn't have cams. I knew I was doing cams so I did headers as a precursor mod. but for a non-rev without cams I would not do headers.

Thanks for all the feeback. I probably won't put in the header. I did a little research online and asked around and it seems like the best upgrade for me right now would be to get the G tuned.

I'd suggest a plenum spacer before that tune. While it won't make a whole lot of gains on paper, it's worth more than it costs in what you gain in response.

EDIT: nm, you have MREV2

I've heard bad things about the megan headers. The welds cracking was the biggest issue. I would just do the basics and get a tune. That should net you some good gains.

sexyrob is correct about the nonrevup. if you dont have cams or dont plan on getting cams.....might as well skip the headers.

unless u can get your hands on sg-motorsports longtubeheaders......which for the price does not equal the horsepower at all. basically if you got the mula and your going full na out then it would be worth it.

after installing mine i only gained 8-10 hp and tq at the top end which is pretty good for nonrevup.....but gains would be more appreciative with cams. which i will be getting later down the line.

Long tube headers are win, but pricey and I hope you don't mind getting pulled over every 5 feet for being so loud.

with all of the mods you listed, the headers added will def. require a tune. But like others have said, headers not really worth the money, cheap headers or not because the labor is a lot unless you do it yourself. Which usually will result in frustration, scraped knuckes and a good amount of 4 letter words.
