Exhaust to make low and mid-range power

Thanks for checking out this thread. I'm looking for an exhaust setup, and could really use some recommendations. Yes, I've searched, and read the coupe exhaust compilation, but a lot of those posts don't have dyno results.

Currently on my 2005 6MT Coupe I have a K&N drop in, Z-tube, MREV2, and MD 5/16" spacer. My current exhaust is all stock, with the exception of an HR y-pipe. I'm waiting to get the exhaust, and once I have all that I'm getting an Osiris tune.

Now a lot of the exhausts and HFCs I've seen dynos for seem to make power up high, but don't make any, or even lost some, down low. I don't track my car, it's a daily driver, and I live in the low-mid range.

I wanted to get people's opinions on a good HFC/catback combo for making power in that range. Or is what I've read telling me to just get one based on preferred sound really correct?

Thanks for the response. I'm leaning towards ART pipes + Invidia Gemini. Anyone have opinions on this setup? I've read a few good ones. I think this will be a good setup for me, because I'd like to keep the tone closer to stock than most catbacks.

If you don't mind me asking, you said you had that setup. What made you change?

Thanks for the head's up on the exhaust for sale. I saw it the other day, but some of the sponsors here have great deals on new exhausts, so I'm going to go that route.

good deal dont pay more than $700

i changed to a different exhaust bc i got my favorite (fast intentions) for real cheap and once i sold the Invidia it was free lol would have went with the Fast Intentions to begin with but never wanted to pay 1500 for a new one
Invidia is great i would have been happy ether way, i would say it has more of a Import sound to it where as the FI is more ballsy (V8 sounds)

I am also thinking about the ividia vs the FI, I can't stand the import sound and want to stay far away from it as possible... What setup did you go with?

I pulled the trigger on the Invidia with ARTs. Both are on their way. I'll post some sound clips when I get them on. I figure for the price I'll try the Gemini, if I don't like it in a few months to a year I might upgrade to the FI.

If you're looking for low - midrange, art pipes and a bigger diameter exhaust weren't what you were looking for.

But the fact is NA motors need RPM to make more power. There's a reason F1 motors rev to 18k

Be prepared for a maximum of 7whp loss below 2.5. But believe me the mid range and high end you gain will be worth it.

Dual exhausts are better for mid range as well, rather than a big single. However, going to a diameter bigger than the stock 2.5 single will result in further low end loss.

Thanks for the tips. The Gemini isn't a larger diameter, though. It's a dual 60 mm (2.36"). I'm expecting a tune will make up for any minor loses I see on the low end.

It really leans it out that much? I mean, I'll probably do them all at the same time anyway, but I didn't think the ARTs would cause that much of an issue. Now to find the time to get over to Hill's in Baltimore. I'm traveling too much for work in the near future.

I agree with larger diameter exhausts being more for mid-high range power, but ART pipes were designed specifically for low-mid range power. I'll have to find my dyno sheet, but I'm pretty sure I gained power throughout the entire powerband when I switched to my MotorDyne exhaust which is 2.5" piping up to the collector then tapers to 3". I guess it just depends on which exhaust you get.

OP seems to have purchased the right parts for his goals.

ART pipes really are for low and mid increases, there is also an associated increase with the XYZ pipe due to the merge point distance being designed rather than just smoothed out.

I'd highly recommend that combo for starters, independent dyno's have consistently shown they make good power across the range but particularly down low.

Also, the reason F1 engines rev that high doesn't have anything to do with making power due to no FI, go back in time to the turbo days
