Test Pipe Installation Question
For those of you have it. When you got it installed. Did your check engine light come on? If yes, what do i need to do to get rid of it so it will be ok to drive with it?
Thanks
Thanks
Just put mine on last Sunday, no CEL. Its possible the MAF/battery wasn't disconnected during the install which may be the problem. Also, this may be obvious but make sure the O2 sensors are attached to your test pipes. Since you know why you have the CEL I don't see a problem driving around with it on for a while. Resetting the ECU might get rid of it, try disconnecting the battery overnight. If you still have problems with the CEL staying on or intermittently appearing you will have to get a set of O2 simulators.

ok nice. Im getting kinda worried. I hear different responses. My exhaust shop told me i will get a check engine light.
My buddy on his Audi S4 installed his test pipes and after a couple of days of the CEL light not being on, it turns on today.
So i dont know wat to expect.

Copy and pasted a little info you:
OBDII cars have two oxygen sensors to measure the amount of oxygen contained in the exhaust gas. The first sensor is located on the manifold or header and measures O2 content of the exhaust as it escapes from the cylinders. This sensor is used by the PCM to calculate fuel trims and look for combustion problems. The second oxygen sensor is located after the catalytic converter and is used only to detect the performance of the converter. The PCM does NOT use any data from the secondary O2 sensor for engine management. The PCM will set an SES (service engine soon) light if the sensor is removed or the sensor goes bad.
So basically the o2 sensors in the test pipes have no effect on Air/Fuel ratio or critical engine management. If you damage your o2 sensors during install you will get the CEL and there are rare cases of them throwing codes because the cats are gone. I would be more worried about the gas smell common with test pipes that I find noticable but not overpowering.

1Nate7, I had my test pipes installed for about three days before the CEL came on. It actually came on when we did the drive to Globe. I reset the ECU twice by leaving the battery disconected overnight and both times the CEL came back on within a day. I thought maybe I might of had a bad O2 sensor so when I installed the Stillen Catback exhaust system in November, I reinstalled the cats and have not had a CEL since.
When we do the dyno day I am more than likely going to put the test pipes back in to see what happens to the horsepower. I have this down to a science now where the test pipe intall takes about 1.5 hours in the garage with the car on jack stands.

well its funny it seems to differ with all test pipes, i bought XERD's and the CEL went off, u need to get o2 sim's or Technosquare might try and encorporate that into their ECU upgrade for the newest ones, im not sure yet, but the test pipes should set ur CEL light off, because u are putting out unburned gas and thats what the sensors are there for, even tho the XERD tech said that it will not set the lights off... So ive heard mixed responses from EVERYONE with test pipes...
