That's why I like the nismo intake. Doesn't block airflow to the rad, its tucked to the side n getting fresh air from the lower grill..

Momentum designed they're intake like wat sx is trying to do. Too bad they out of business. It was a nice design

I've been quite happy w/ my Injen SRI. Took it on (2) 2000 mile road trips (our regular trips to Vegas) and my hwy mpg was exactly the same as w/ my oem boxes (28.5 mpg). This was cruising at 80mph over various elevations and temps. Haven't taken the trip in the dead heat of summer so heat soak may rear its' head but as of now no complaints. The sound @ 4k rpm through redline at WOT is worth the price of admission IMO. My shorty velocity tubes don't really seem to get overly hot compared to a couple of Gs I've seen w/ the full tube intakes. I also like that they use the dry amsoil filters, heard of flow issues w/ the oiled units.
YMMV

Of course no monetary refunds will occur through a message board, but even more than being able to see itrader ratings/posted experiences of vendors is the fact that it is an open forum to a huge part of their potential market.

If a vendor mistreats a customer on here the customer is going to post it up and then the vendor has the choice of ignoring the customer and screwing over their sales as well as risk getting banned, or to make things right and save face and potentially even increase their attractiveness for people to do business with them. Not to mention that usually at least a few people on the boards know/have met the vendors personally and/or live in close proximity to them. What about just buying through some random site? Then it isn't out in the open on the biggest forum for their target market, so the pressure for them to fix the situation is a lot less and if you get screwed over who really cares?

Isn't this the same as the OEM air duct connected to the airbox?

It provides a lot more air than the "power funnel" system. The OEM system is rather restrictive.

Ideally yes, but I think it's very clear that a good amount of people still don't utilize their credit cards as their main purchasing method despite the risks. Also it is many times much more convenient to get the vendors to willingly fix problems rather than having to dispute everything. Especially if it's something necessary for normal car operation for people who DD their cars.

If everyone is worried about heat soak....has anyone tried heat wrapping the intake pipes? I mean if you are only going for the performance and not so much about the actual look of it why not thermo wrap it? It should cure your issue of the pipe being too warm and thus you are truly dealing with the incoming air only

Where did you get the ducting and funnel from???? This seems like a simple DIY. I just need to know where to get the parts. Let me know if you have a min. Thanks.

The problem with a lot of these is not just heat soak through the intake tube but also the filter for many intakes is not completely separated from the hot engine bay like the oem setup and thus are pulling in a lot more hot air, especially at rest/low speeds.

Some are better than others, like the r2c looks pretty good, but then ones like for the popcharger seem hopeful at the best

But the long tube design of a true CAI gives you lag on the low end as well. But the Nismo does sound good! IMO sounds a lot nicer than JWT or Stillen. I think it would be better if you could get some more fresh air into the bumper area where the filter is nicely tucked away.

The best sounding option I've seen in these last few posts is SxExCx's intake mod.

^logically i imagine that radiator air diversion panels thing would force air towards the cai filter area and keep the air circulating in that area.

"best sounding option" meaning good idea or good sound?

It's been done successfully in conjunction with pulling air from outside of the engine bay. Most guys here won't do it because it's ugly and takes some extra time.
