Just wondering, what those of you think who have perhaps had a chance to witness or experience the performance of different y-pipes. Which do you think is best as regards sound & performance?

The cheapest one you can find. Any aftermarket Ypipe will get you the same results give or take 1 or 2 hp. But not enuff to to say this type "A" Ypipe is better than this type "B" one. But if you plan on going w/ an aftermarket exhaust, def. go w/ a Ypipe that has a 3" outlet.

How about for sound... Do they all pretty much sound the same or do some have a more quality sound than others?

yeah.. they're pretty much all the same.. then again, i have heard that some cheaper ones did crack.. but those were rare occurences.. just get something for a decent price.. they all have the same function and offer a very slight performance improvement..

i have the fujitsubo Y-pipe installed and i love it. the sound is slightly deeper. i also like that the fujitsubo has a cross tube between the 2 long tubes, b/c i have heard that some of the Y-pipes rattle.

i can't comment on the gains b/c i had it installed at the same time as my TopSpeed/Pro1 headers

I'd buy the Jic or the Tanabe over the Fuji and it's copies. Remember though, all after market Y-pipes use a larger diameter collector then the oem mid pipe uses. Bolting up a 76.3mm pipe onto a smaller 65mm pipe defeates the flow improvements that made you buy the Y-pipe in the first place. Only do a Y-pipe if you have a 76.3mm system down stream or your willing to spend $30 or so to have a simple transistion piece installed into your mid pipe. It is more common for aftermarket single pipe systems for the G to use a 70mm pipe diameter.

The Kintix Y-pipe does use a 65mm collector.

Helpful input thus far... I wish I could get to a meet and hear some of the different ones in person. I have often heard that some Y-pipes give you a more raspy sound and I have heard one of the Fji copies once and it had a bit of a rattle. I wonder if exhaust wrap would help with this as well(?)

I experienced a very annoying buzz/raspy sound @ around 1800 - 2000 rpms after I installed my UT Ypipe. At first I thought it was rattling against something. But come to find out it was caused from going from the 3" outlet on the Ypipe into the smaller diameter stock midpipe. As soon as I installed my Fuji Legalis R it went away.

I wonder if a reducer would help with this(?) (for those of us who will keep the stock exhaust)

I personally haven't heard that combo yet but I'm sure it's similar to the setup I have. BTW this is on a coupe.

kahboom: I'm sure the reducer would def help this. There's someone on this board who's done it...try a search & PM him.
