Single cat

Does anyone know if it's possible to delete the twin cats and bolt a Y pipe to the headers and have only a single cat at the end of that Y pipe? Or is there some law requiring one cat for a certain amount of pistons

It's called a motordyne xyz pipe. It's an interchangable y pipe with the option of adding on a single high flow cat. I recently sold the y pipe and only have the single hfc left.

I know of the xyz system but I'm simply wondering if it's possible to add a y pipe and one normal cat (not high flow) to a stock exhaust system
