Noob question - can someone explain the exhaust set up on these cars?
My only other experience has been on a TTZ32. The set up there was typically Downpipes, Test Pipes or cats, and a cat-back.
Having just purchased the G35, I'm a bit confused by the Y pipe, XYZ pipe (with and without cats/resonators evidently), test pipes or cats, and then cat-back situation. Is the Y pipe and XYZ pipe the same section of exhaust piping? Can't seem to get any clear info.
Sorry for the noob question, but thanks in advance for the assitence.

More research you'll have fewer questions!
We could explain and give you an answer but I'd like you to do research on your own. Motordyne exhaust and find out where the XYZ pipe is included. Y back exhaust is just that, it starts with the exhaust manifolds connected to the cats then the y-pipe etc. Cat back eliminates the y-pipe and comes straight off the cats and what I consider a far better system.

Your post above mentions that a cat-back system eliminates the y-pipe section, so would I be correct in assuming that one would not purchase a cat-back system AND an XYZ pipe?
So the set up would be
Manifolds > Cats or test pipes > Y Pipe, XYZ Pipe or cat-back system?

Thanks, Gary. Believe it or not, I have searched already. All I can find is that the XYZ pipe is referred to as the "Y Pipe Section", so I'm inferring that it replaces the Y Pipe section, but haven't found anything definite.

OEM: Manifolds > Cats or test pipes > Y Pipe> mid pipe > rear muffler
The XYZ pipe is just motordyne's name for their 3" y pipe
