So I had smog done today, I've been going to this smog place for years (for my DD) and knew the owner really well. He is pretty strict as far as visual inspection and all that.

The only mods I have is IG CBE and z-tube, plenum spacer, no dash lights etc.. Still have the oem cats. He told me that next time he may not pass me because he couldn't find a carb sticker on my cbe. I told him that oem cats are still on and that is all that matters? He nodded and smirk.

Anyways, I did not like that attitude and I already have few other places to go in the future. My question is, do they really require a carb sticker on aftermarket CBE? if there are any federal or state law about this, please link me and I would like to refresh my knowledge. Otherwise, BS or nah?

 

I believe in California anything aftermarket relating to the engine or emissions controls has to have a CARB sticker.

Here in Texas, they just check for codes and fuel cap integrity.
