Next step in exhaust system??

I have 06 g35 5AT with Z1 high flow cats, plenum spacer and Intake, installing a NWP 75 mm throttle body next week, muffler is stock because I like the tone. It’s deff louder with all this but I still feel like something is missing. I want to add a Z1 y pipe, would that be the missing piece I need to make louder and keep stock tone?

Great first mods Tyler! My best advice buying an exhaust system, forget the damn y-pipe and look for a actual dual cat back system that eliminates it! To achieve maximum flow and sound quality only a cat back system works best! Which one is best has been discussed since '04, do a SEARCH! My opinion HKS or Motordyne!
Good Luck, enjoy the ride...Gary

Thanks man do you know anything about Z1 in Georgia? They make some pretty good stuff for our cars and they have a cat back system suppose to be ridiculously loud!

They make some great products but a single exit is weird on a G. I would stick to Invidia, HKS, or Motordyne only if you really want the best.

EXCEPT !!!!!!!

Your G will drone no matter what exhaust because you have a 5AT. Ask how I know .

Tyler, AT has zero to do with drone, you've replaced those very restrictive OE cats with HFC's and the rest of your exhaust system is over whelmed by the excessive volume! Imagine putting 32oz of dog sh*t in a 1 lb. can! That's what happens when your OE exhaust can't handle the extra volume...the dreaded drone! Only way to correct is with a high flow real cat-back exhaust system!

Ok, then why with my HKS exhaust with 3" Magnaflow x-pipe (replaced the crossover) and Fast Intention HFC's don't I have any rasp? Oh yea, SLICK has an somewhat modified AT!

Urban has a valid point. It seems there are a bunch of people that have paired the TDX2 with the stock auto transmission and have drone. And that's with a variety of high-flow/stock cats and test pipes. Hence his advice to call Tony and ask is spot on.

Knowing what I know now I would've done Gary's method with nice HFC because that smell sucks on a DD.

I also call BS on the transmission dictating whether or not drone will be a factor.
