I just installed a Takeda aFe Power, Stage 2 Pro Dry S intake with airbox adapter, on my 2006 G35x sedan. The car is breathing a lot better than stock, it sounds and drives great, and with my straight piped exhaust, the car is much more powerful than stock, and honestly sounds better than a Ferrari when accelerating (I live in a very affluent area East of Seattle about 5 minutes from Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, where exotics are very common on most sunny days, and I still think my car sounds better than almost anything on the roads here other than a McLaren.
Installation was easy and straight forward. I ordered the kit from Vividracing.com, and while things were delayed due to COVID, their office team was very helpful and got shipping expedited for me when I called about the delay.
Love this intake. I was highly skeptical of aftermarket intakes doing anything beneficial but I have to admit the power gains are very noticeable. I have not dyno'ed my car nor have I done the car's reset sequence (I had to do that myself after installing camshaft positions sensors a couple years ago).
I remember seeing that intake listed on Amazon a while ago. I like that it uses the stock air box to draw air from outside the engine bay, unlike most other intake set ups.
I ended up getting the Stillen Z-tube and an OEM Revup intake box. Both of those did seem to make the car more responsive, probably minimal power gains.
Interesting, i'm just wondering what contact points the intake has with the car though? It seems to lack the one on the tube/plenum and the one that connects by the lights is gone as well. That leaves just the bottom of the stock air box to hold it in place?
How secure is the intake, and how much movement would there be during driving?
Also, how hard is it to get the filter out of the air box to clean/replace?
It really only has one bolt attaching the intake to the body/engine bay, and the rest is held in place from the connection to the throttle body hose/adapter, and the clips from the air-box. One clip to the air-box is wonky, but 2/3 are good. I do want to reinforce the radiator/intake duct which uses the cheap plastic grommets that connect to the diverter panel and stock-air box The filter and air box are screwed into one another, so you'd have to remove the hose clamp behind the air-box. That said, the filter can be vacuumed and cleaned with water, once the air-box adapter are removed via the hose clamp. My oem air filter was over 12mnths and was perfect, nonetheless. In reality, this install was super simple, and is really impressive; more so than any intake I've added in the past. I have been going on twisty mountain and forestry roads in 3rd (5AT) the entire way, and it's glorious. Up to 85mph with whooshing the entire time, positive or negative pressure, no in between. Again, I highly recommend this intake, esp if you want to avoid a long and low Injen CAI, as I did given the PNW and wet and snowy weather here.
