Infamous Borla rattle
#31
Hmmm. . .replaced my gaskets. . .
Some good news, some bad.
1. I DID find the source of the "rattle snake" rattle sound. See the first pic. I think it was funny how the sound was described as "wind between window blinds" and the stock stacked gasket looks exactly like a set of closed blinds! I seem to recall when I put the borla flanged pipe on the cat, there was an awful lot of gritty crunching and grinding between the layers of the gasket. . .stupid me for not have cleaning it out first!
2. I repaced with the new one piece exhaust gasket. . .(next pic) Hmmm. . .at least this one is SOLID!
3. I don't hear the "chchchchchchchchchch!" anymore. . .
4. BUT
5. LOL
6. I do hear a very slight "tick tick" sound but only at 1500-2000 RPMs, but it is much less noticeable as far as I can tell. . .
I guess I'll keep it.

BTW, I think you should route the exhaust through the trunk like that, it looks HOT!

I originally used the stock cat to flange pipe gasket, since the borla install guide said to re-use them. That is my one complaint about the kit. . .I would have been nice to include new gaskets! I bought those gaskets from thepartsbin.com.
You mean to tell me that your exhaust doesn't come through your trunk? I knew I routed something wrong!

Borla Hiss
Just had mine installed today! I LOVE IT!!!
However, like you guys I have a similar hiss as the rpms's decline from 2500 to 2000 rpm...After looking under the car I could see that the cat flange has leaks on both sides...I can feel air....I will take it back Monday and let you guys know what the solution is--hopefully they can install a gasket like Drewers....OVERALL THIS EXAUST ROCKS! I love the depth of sound and clean acceleration! Although I did not notice any performance gain (I guess Im just not that sensitive) I love the sound---and I will keep it--just need to work out the hiss leaks.....I agree with Drewer....Borla should include a gasket that works for the cat to new system transition...

Im going to have my H-pipe tightened or welded tommorow and Ill let you guys know if the hiss dissappears....GLAD TO HEAR IT WORKED FOR YOU FIREFOX!!
If anyone wants a sound clip/video (1 meg) of the borla with high flow cats...Just email me a request to richardanddawn@earthlink.net

Many thanx to all who tracked down the Borla rattle, since I have one in shipment from everything G35 right now
I just ordered replacement gaskets, and will have the local garage put them on when they install the exhaust. Maybe I'll get lucky and not have any leaks, whistles, chirps, burps, or other unusual sounds
