Exhaust/Reducer Cone - Inner or Outer Diam.?

I'm looking for a reducer cone at Dr. Gas to use with my Nismo Headers/Y-pipe and OEM rear section combo.

I know I need to go from the 3" Y-pipe into the 2 1/2" OEM mid-pipe, but I don't know if those dimensions are inner-diameter or outer-diameter. Dr. Gas makes both inner and outer diam. sizes and suggests being sure of what you need.

Can anyone confirm which method of measurement (inner or outer) is used when referring to our the G's exhaust system?

I have a Y-pipe at home that I can measure, but it won't be until this evening. I always thought that pipe diameters were measured from the inside, but I could be wrong.

I figured the same, however, with the urging of Dr.Gas to make sure, that's what I'm trying to accomplish. lol I'm almost certain that it's a 3"-ID down to 2.5"-ID that I'm needing, but I'd love to get some confirmation before ordering. Of course, it is just around $10. I guess it's no big loss if it's the wrong size.

$10? That's a smokin deal.

Is that with or without the welded flange?

Last time I heard, it was roughly $35 plus shipping.

that's for the flange welded to the reducer cone.
the cone is only $10
the flange is like another $10 or something.
and the welding is the remainder.

Sorry Jason, I forgot to add in the welded flange cost... ...and S/H, of course.

Jasper - So, I guess you just order the right cone with a 2-bolt flange welded to the 3" inlet-side and leave the 2.5" outlet-side bare for a straight weld onto the stock rear section/mid-pipe (with oem flange cut from mid-pipe to accomodate added length of reducer cone)?

Or does anyone think it's worth welding a flange on both ends of the reducer cone and a new flange on the shortened mid-pipe as well?

Finally found the thread that discussed this mod. I remember reading it way back but couldn't find it with the search criteria I was using. Anyway, for others interested in the cone-reducer exhaust mod and the specific cone/flange specs, they are:

Flange: 2-bolt, 4.5" between hole centers - welded to 3" inlet-side of reducer cone
Cone: 3" to 2.5" reducer cone

More discussion and pics can be found in the following thread: https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...t=cone+reducer

sounds like you've got it.
as far as the whole flange subject. i think that would be overkill. you've already cut the mid-pipe. it's not like anything else would ever fit naturally. and it might even cost you more than triple of the reducer (welding and labor of installer).
but i don't think you're pursuing that anymore.

lol Nope. Now that I see how it's meant to be done, that's how it'll go.

I just placed my order with Dr. Gas for the reducer cone. I asked about a flange, he asked me what size and when I told him, he said he "has some welded up for the..." I finished the sentence for him during his pause '...The Infiniti G35?' He said yes and so we promptly completed my order. He said they may be out of the pre-made ones, but if so it would be tomorrow when it went out. Fast enough for me!

This guy was really nice and didn't hesitate to leave the middle of the shop to go into the office and take my piddly little $35 order. He says he's been selling a lot of these lately. I suggest giving him a call if you're running the OEM rear section with an aftermarket Y-pipe.
