Spray or liquid Oil?

To anyone who has used K&N Filters in the past, is the Spray Oil or Liquid Oil easier to use (in the Cleaning/Recharge Kit)?

Thx

"I bought the K&N filter for my G35. I immediatly noticed
a decrease in gas mileage. After communicating with
K&N about my observations, K&N recommended that
"I remove the K&N filter and replace it with the paper one."
Seems that the G35 computer is not programmed to handle
the increased air flow. What a dissapointment."

Also, don't forget, you will notice a slight milage loss at first anyway with a K&N. You have to wait till some of the oil used for cleaning to clear out, and some dirt to settle. Sounds funny, but K&N filters actually flow better once they get a little dirt/dust in there. And I know this to be true, b/c I had a drop-in in my Maxima, and everytime I cleaned it, my performance and milage dropped for the 1st couple weeks. EVERYTIME!!

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

When I bought my drop-in for my Coupe, it had instructions for a cart. install as well, along with the foam spacers. The instructions with mine, states only use the spacers for cart. installs. Throw them out for non-cart. installs. So I did, and it fits perfect. Hope I don't run into any problems in the future tho. Also don't have the part. #. Oh well

Couple Questions for you guys with K&N drop-ins with Coupes.

1. Did you notice your exhaust got quieter with after installation? The intake is slightly louder, but the exhaust seems a little quieter. It may just be me getting used to the sound now tho.

2. Is there an easy way to remove the filter from the air box? Compared to my Maxima, the G35's filter is a PITA to remove and install!! How did you do yours? I don't want to go through that everytime I have to clean it

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

I have a K&N Drop-In in my coupe, in conjuction with a 350Z Air Tube. Installation of the filter was a bitch. The tube however was quite easy to Remove and Replace. You have to remove everything up to the Air Tube to get the filter in. It should be a Drop-In, as the name implies. I noticed no difference in mileage or exhaust sound. Intake noise was increased. The noise went up alot when I put the "Z" tube in however. Since I put the filter in, I have also installed a dual exhaust system. I used a MagnaFlow Muffler and two Blue Streak Glasspacks. The thing now sounds and feels awesome. If anyone needs it the Filter part Number is 33-2031-2. I know a previous post indicates that this is the wrong replacement filter, but it's not, it fits perfectly. I didn't use the spacers, as the old and new filters were the same size. The 33-2031-2 is the right filter for this application.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

i read that the oil type filters tend to messup the MAF sensor. this is the reason why im staying away from K&N. i was looking at a dry type element. but i dont think you would feel any difference just putting it on with the butt dyno feeling. i also have not seen any dyno's just for a drop-in as well.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

Air filter removal is easy once the Infiniti technician shows you
how to do it. Went to the service department after my K&N
purchase, could not figure it out. Well.... remove the tabs
fastening the horizontal air scoop over the radiator. Slip a
small flathead screwdriver under the tab and it pops up
and out. Move the scoop out of the way. Then undo the
bolt holding the air box in place. Unhook the 4 fasteners
of the box. Grab the intake scoop with hand and pull upwards.
The entire box pulls up out of a very small fastening hole
at the bottom of the box. Take a flashlight and look under it.
You can see a post from the bottom of the air box that fits into
a "hole" underneath. Spread open the air box and remove the
filter. Replace. Snap the 4 clips. Now... you need to align the
post under the box towards the hole we just looked at with
the flashlight. When it lines up, the box fits back. Fasten the
bolt , replace horizontal scoop and put the tabs back. When
replacing the tabs, make sure the center is in the up position.
Push the assembly into the hole, then push the center pin
down. This locks it. Really simple once you have done it a few times.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

OK, now I am really confused. One person say use the 33-2031-2 model, and another person says K&N themselves say to use th 33-2259 model.

Do they both work? Or is one MORE right than the other? I'm ready to order this thing, but holding off because of the confusion.

Please help!

Both filters fit the G35. The one specifically for the
Cartridge type contained more non-filter area. The one
K&N recommended more closely fit the original paper filter.
I do believe you could use either one, but you read what K&N
said to me about this subject.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

My guess would be, that both of the filter's themselves, from each part # are exactly the same. One part # comes with some extra, unneeded hardware along with the filter in the K&N box. The only difference in the cartridge install filter, are two foam spacers with double sided tape that you can attach if need be. Once you throw them out, I'd bet you'd have 2 identical filters in hand.

OK - I called K&N and spoke to a tech. First off, the 2259 is not yet released. The 2031 is 11" by 6-5/8" by 1-1/16" thick. The 2259 will be 11" by 6-1/2" by 1" thick. As I said before, for me, the 2031 fit perfectly. Certainly the size difference is almost nil, but the 2031 is bigger.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

I bought the 33-2259 recommended by K&N at my local
performance parts shop. Called every parts store in
Houston looking for it, most everyone said "it's not a listed filter".
Found it at a Katy Texas Performance Auto Shop, it was listed
on the internet. It does exist. I had both in my hands at one point,
the 2259 more closely resembled the stock paper filter in filter media
dimensions.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

After reading this thread I decided to get the K&N filter online from http://performance.performance-air-filters.com/.
They only had one K&N filter speced out for the G35 (same one I purchased for my '00 Maxima SE a few yrs back). I got it anyway $43 + $5 ship. I received it today.

Read how easy it would be to install. I just finished it 1.5 hrs later... I must admist it is a knuckle buster. The maxima filter change takes 10 minutes. The G35 assembly does not come out easy at all (even after reading your advice). What was Inifiniti thinking? At one point I dropped my glasses into the plate on the bottom of the car took me 20 minutes to get them out. Then I almost felt like I was going to break the assembly housing the filter. Then lining up the pin to the hole took forever!

Anyway I am done now - it is in place and ready for 50K miles of use. Glad I don't have to change this air filter every 15K miles as some recommend for the dry element ones.

Come on... I have gotten so good at swapping
the air filter that I can do it in less than 5 min.

Re: K & N DO OR DON'T ?¿

G35 (at least the sedan, haven't done a coupe) air filter changeout:

loosen the hose clamp at the inlet to the throttle body (yes WAY up there)

diconnect the MAF plug from the MAF

remove the two plastic retainers on top of the radiator for the air duct

remove two screws one on driver side of airbox, one just inboard of the ribbed coupling

pull the whole assembly out as one piece

5 minutes max

I pulled both resonators out and left them out. there is a third one but it is permanently attached to the intake tube. I duct taped over the two holes left where the resonators were.
