oh. that is the carbon fiber engine cover that we have in front of the kinetix manifold. Yeah, we just started carrying UTR stuff at our dealership

Now let's say you use a Z tube and a K&N Panel. Is the CONE that much better than the Panel style? I mean, the surface area of a cone vs panel has to be very close. Assuming that is the determining performance difference.
I too am curious about this. People seem to state that the z tube increases intake noise, so is there REALLY that much ($200.00) difference between the z tube and K&N drop in and the z tube w/ the stillen or pop charger.

Thanks

Chris

I've gone through the stages on my car. Stock intake/stock filter was quiet. Then I installed z-tube and k&n. It adds a bit more noise at 4,000rpm+. Then remove power duct and at 4,000+ rpm it picked up a bit more noise. Afterward I replaced the k&n filter with stillen cai and the intake noise sounds much better. You can hear it getting more throaty when close at 3,000rpm. Unlike the z-tube/k&n (with or without powerduct) that you can't really hear much till 4,000+ rpm.

Did anyone notice the stock intake box has a velocity accelerator funnel tube right behind the panel filter? I think the additional sound people are getting from the stillen/jwt pop charger is just by use of the cone filter design providing the additional air flow capacity (more open surface area)... just my 2 cents...

That's just it. If you laid a cone filter flat, I don't think it offers any more filter area than a panel.

it is more like a volumetric surface area....cone filters probably just pulls air in a vortex shape pattern and gets accelerated even more through the velocity stack (the bell shaped pipe end)...

just installed mine
bought it off nuttyprof (tx!) and just finished installing. Install was super easy, just a little tricky lining up the bolts from the ring to the MAF housing.

Did not reset the ECU yet, but wow the noise is unreal from under the hood. I have a ztube and spacer and I think the combo has really started to open up the induction. I will have to go take it for a longer spin later to see the difference. The cone filter seems kinda hidden in the heat box, but at least i know it is somewhat getting colder air.

does the still CAI run a greater risk of hydrolocking the engine compared to the stock airbox?

No way! The Stillen stands the same chance of hydrolocking as does the stock air box.

the stillen cai isn't really a cold air in the sense of being in the bumper, it is the same height, if not higher than the stock airbox, so unless you plan on going for a swim you should be fine, but wow I'm loving the extra induction noise w/ the spacer!

you would be better of selling it in the classifieds, you will get more responses that way.

Well the Stillen intake is a CAI. Think of it this way. It pulls the air higher off the ground where there isn't as much HEAT. The lower you are to the ground pulling the air, the greater chance of heat you get as well as water. The ground is much hotter than 1-2 feet above it.

I agree, I just meant in the traditional sense of being a long tube in the bumper where you can hit a puddle and be in trouble, but yes the Stillen is a short ram CAI. Yep the asphault is always hotter, thats why the temp gauge on most cars is wrong since its on the bottom, or a few degrees warmer than the air.

I have the Pop Charger. Can anyone tell me the SOUND difference between the Stillen CAI and the Pop Charger.

Thanks,

Jeff
