350Z tube on G, help.
I placed my order for my Z tube today at a local Nissan dealer. Their list price was $100.18 but I got it down to $80. The only thing is, I do not have any experience with modifications. Can someone who has done this mod please post a guide with directions on how to install it. Or is there anyone in the S.FL area who can help me install the tube. if I get some directions I might try it with a couple of friends, also while I was @ Nissan I went into the service and told a tech what I wanted to do and he took a look @ my engine and said when I get the part in, just drive up behind the garage and he would do it on the side. So I might do that if I can’t do it myself or with some help from a fellow G35 owners. So if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey- how about a tutorial on how you got the price down to $80? I just ordered my tube and I got the $100 price - $80 sounds better. Did you just reference the online price to get the reduction?

well i called nissanwholesaleparts.com and they said $75 + 6.50 shiped for g35driver/Freshalloy.com members. but they are on backorder for about a week. so i called my local nissan dealer and said they have the part online for $75 can you match it. he put me on hold for a couple of min and came back saying he could do $80 + tax. i said fine ill be in later today to place the order. so its costing me a couple $ more to get it from the dealer but i will get it alot sooner then if i ordered online.

Just a little more to it than that, but not much. You'll find two hose clamps on you current tube. One at the exit from the airbox and one at the inlet to the plenum. Loosen them both, and remove both ends of the old tube. There is also a mounting bolt to the plenum somewhere near the middle of the tube, remove that bolt, save it, and reuse it on the new tube. The old tube has a hot air piece that goes straight down to the exhaust manifold, so lift it up and then out. Remove the small rubber hose from the top of the "G" Tube (on the intake side), and replace it on the bottom of the "Z" Tube. Reverse the order to install the "Z" tube (the "Z" comes with a hose clamp on the airbox end, so you will not have to replace that one) you will replace the hose clamp on the plenum end with the old one. That's all there is to it. Takes longer to explain about it than to do it.

Hi. The previous responses cover the installation. After you install the duct check if the small breather hose that you attached to the underside of the duct is touching the firewall. If so, you may want to glue a small piece of stiff foam rubber to the firewall to prevent it chafing the breather hose. Enjoy.

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.
I recieved my 350Z intake duct last night.
It took all of 15 minutes to install it. Wow!
This should have been stock. It sounds so
much better. The install was very easy.
Don't know if I should get the Stillen CAI now.

I am also undecided on the Stillen, or any other, CAI. There is a recent post somewhere in this forum where a G was dynoed with and without the stock air filter. There was only a 1.5HP gain without the filter. You have to wonder if there will be any HP gain with the use of a so-called performance air filter. Also, the Stillen housing appears to have the same inlet area as the stock unit.
My opinion is that the greatest advantages of the Stillen, and maybe other manufacturers, is that they remove the protective screen in front of the MAF and add the "venturi" inlet bell. The little screen can have significant flow loss. The stock housing has a minimal inlet bell. Who knows if Stillen's bell is significantly better.
These comments are not meant to criticize Stillen. I am only skeptical.

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.
Stillen claims to dyno everyting it sells, and claims to
get 11 hp at 6100 rpm on the Sedan. I just wonder
how much of that 11 hp I am already getting with the
350Z intake duct along with the K&N drop in. Let's
say I get 5 hp with the K&N + 350Z duct. Will I get
an additional 11 hp with the Stillen CAI? Probably not.
But if I can get an additional 6 with it, is it worth $250?
