Exhaust by a local shop?

Has anyone just had a local shop just put a custom system on there G? I noticed some one put a TD on an M.

I went to a shop, and they suggested building a custom Y Pipe, (The stock one sucks I guess), and taking out the resonator before the muffler. We were going to keep the stock muffler and go from there in the future. ($200)

Now the question. Are the aftermarket exhausts, Stillen, Borla, etc... really better? Worth the extra $$?

Comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

I made my own custom exhaust. It was nice and all, but I think the cost in the end is very similar to just buying one. Especially if you wanna go mandrel bent. Stainless steel pipes are expensive enough, then you get mandrels and its going to probably cost the same if not more than an exhaust you can buy.

I just used mild steel and had it press bent, and it ended up costing me like $600 or so for the labor/piping. Then the cost of the mufflers. If I went SS mandrel, I probably would have spent $800+

It cost me so much cuz I made it TD, so thats double the amount of piping. Cat back, so a little more to replace the y-pipe. I had to buy 2 flex sections so that it would last long, and not crack on me. Then also 2 resonators.

Thanks for the responses.

I will probably buy and aftermarket system, and have someone put it in.

Is there a good exhaust for N/A that can be used for an F/I application too?

Reading through the forums, I will probably buy Stillen or Borla.
