Best flowing high flow cats

Recently the guys at Crawford finished a high flow cat for the 350Z and G35. Also at NFC motorsports web site they have a random technology high flow cat pictured under their 350Z section. I wonder which cat would flow better. The random tech cats are more expensive but they look nicer.

Re: Best flowing high flow cats

From my experience I've found Random cats to be a very good product. I'm sure Crawford's cats are also a good product. The difference... maybe internal design, maybe the CFM rating, cost and looks. (The CFM ratings should be available if you dig deep enough.)

The polished Random cat downpipes are indeed pretty. But what will they look like after a 1000 miles, a few water puddles, oily and dusty roads.

Keep your somg laws in order in Cali as well-you can't replace them for 5 years unless you can prove they fialed. If they failed the shop has to prove it with the burn up cats. With the new inspections and dyno requirements it may not be worth f'ing with.

CAn you please elaborate

Do they actually do some inspections when they perform the smog check. I thought they just take a sample of the exhaust gas and test it for CO, etc.

Please tell us. I have Crawford high flow cats enroute to me as we speak. Should I put them on?

You had better hope your smog shop is lax on the inspection-they won't be, they get fined too much and the tech can get jail time. You really won't have much to worry about until your car is 4 years old as that is when your first smog check will be required. Jopefully the rules may change for the better before then but CARB is not known to be friendly to the auto industry but if you own aircraft or diesel trucks or any other commercial vehicle they will gladly look the other way in the intrest of business. Business' have lobbyist and the public is a very big and very easy target.

Re: Best flowing high flow cats

All the cars I have had smogged, including a truck just the other week - they have never ever crawled under the car to look at the cat. Gas cap - yes. Air filter/intake - yes. Other stuff under hood - yes. Never looked at the Cat. I've been to maybe 6 or 7 different shops before I found one or two I regularly go to - no one ever checked. I bet so long as you pass the tailpipe sniffer, they will have no reason to look at the cat and you will not need to worry.

You may be right as I have never had this but I have watched a tech check a car with mods on it as you describe. It is a chance you may not want to take but we all have 4 years before we must subject ourselves to their watchful eyes.

Dead Presidents can also help pass inspection.

In many cases yes-until some they know gets nailed and they all hear about the jail time the techs spent the $25,000 fine per car and the loss of the license to smog. I know of a dealership that is currently dealing with this issue and it is going to get worse before it gets any better.
