Nissan Oil Filter

Changed the oil filter on my vehicle today. I was curious about the internals of the Nissan filter so I cut it open. I was really disappointed in the construction. It had cardboard endcaps and the shell was very easy to saw through compared to a Lexus filter I had previously inspected. I went back with a Napa Gold (1356) filter, which I have been very impressed with. The Napa was longer than the OEM filter by about 3/4"-1". Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on the filter. Later.

Re: Nissan Oil Filter

Thanks for the post. My observations also. I'm using a K&N HP1006 for the reasons you cite. The HP1008 is a direct cross, but K&N tells me the pressure relief valve for the 1006 and 1008 is the same, and the 1008 is a little longer.

Wow,, I was wondering that as well... A friend sent me a link showing the difference between a stock and a Lexus filter and that is why I switched mine to a K&N 1006 as well... good job on the sawing...lol

Re: Nissan Oil Filter

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is the real benefit from a K&N or larger filter in general? Just wondering.
