HKS muffler + Coupe midpipe

i have a 03 5AT sedan. i ordered my hks muffler (because a lot of people love it on this forum) and was wondering about the exhause sound with the coupe midpipe, since i might get it from my friend for real cheap. however, i hear that the sound is too loud or raspy?

what are your thoughts?

from riding in a 05AT sedan with coupe midpipe and hks muffler, the sound is louder and raspier than stock..... that is why the 05AT owner (forum name is myst...) sold me his muffler... his 05AT did drone in the 2k-2.5k rpm range with the coupe midpipe... mine humms deeply at startup, goes to quiet humm at normal idle, and roars with a slight rasp when pushed past 3500 rpm and letting off the throttle quickly... haven't got sound clip so dont ask... will try and post when i do get it...

fenix,

did you have to use one of the hanger kit to install the HKS? I heard this is needed for 05 6mt sedan when installing aftermarket mufflers. Other than performancepartsnissan, can this hanger kit be purchased at Kragen/Pep Boys? Anyone know?

yes, you do need the hanger kit to install the HKS since you'll be using a different frame mount location than the factory muffler....

i haven't looked elsewhere, but i'm pretty sure your best bet would be the online nissan/infiniti sites since it is one of those fairly new specialty nissan parts.... let us know if you do find it at local autoparts stores for future reference, especially the price...

Well today I put on a coupe midpipe with the stock muffler on my 03 and I have to say I am not as thrilled so far as some of the other post have been on this. It does have a pronounced deeper idle now and definately much louder and sounds good when you get ito it but at around 1500 RPM it drones pretty harshly. I am not sure if the HKS muffler will solve this or not but I think as much as I like a nice sounding exhaust that it sounds almost out of place on the sedan. Will give it some more time and see what to I want to do about it then. As usual just my .01.
