ztube + stillen intake problem
i installed a ztube and stillen intake before i left for a trip on tuesday.. anyway i got back tonight took my car for a spin and noticed a kind sluggish idle after driving and putting it back into neutral.. drove it in 2nd hard.. the rpm dropped to 0 then bounced back up to idle.. i then drove on the freeway and gunned it till 3rd.... when i put it back into neutral.. the car died! i quickly restarted it to regain my power steering (on 20's) later tonight gunned it in 3rd again.. the rpm dropped to about 3-400 but it didnt die.. anyone have any idea whats going on?
Do you get any CEL's? Did you install your MAF correctly?
Also with the intake, my idle is a little wierd. When I'm stopped at a light for a while (couple minutes) the idle gets rough. I don't know if it's because of heatsoak or what not, but I've never had the car turn off. I think the rough idle is kind of normal, though.

I have the Stillen and Z-tube without any of the issues you guys are having at all.
It sounds like the MAF plug may be loose or something. I would disconnect the battery, disconnect the MAF and check the mount and all connections. reconnect and then connect battery.
Also, make sure your intake connections are perfect and tight - you could have an air leak....

I have the same Stillen Air Box problem... If I drive it hard and fast and then neutralize, it WILL shut off... WHY?
I had made a few threads about it before and most figured it is the air turbulence or something. I guess the only people that really notice it are those that gun it and then neutralize instead of leaving it in gear to slow down.
Note: I don't have a Z tube -- yet
Since my early threads, I have just left it in 6th w/o problem. I really don't think it is your MAF.
ISMSOLUTIONS: I will check mine for an air leak (no one suggested that before). Try gunning yours up to 80mph and then neutralize it and tell us what happens. But be warned, if the car shuts off, you will lose your power steering! That's what happened to me when I first noticed the issue.

It happened to me once too-I went to redline and then put it to neutral-it stalled. Never occured again, so I am not worried

i may have a leak.. the gap between the maf and the plastic holder has a small gap that i cannot fill no matter how much i tighten it.. i dont want it to break.. but it seems like that is the source of the problem... bad fabrication in my opinion
p.s. only happens when im in gear and driving hard.. if i just rev my motor in neutral i have no problems

Get yourself a bottle of NON RESIDUE electronic cleaner and spray the sensing wire clean. You don't have to get right up to it and blast it full force, but just spray it clean and spray the hell out of it. Let it dry for about 5 minutes and reinstall everything.
Also, check and make sure that you didn't over-oil the filter. Sometimes if there's too much oil on the filter, it'll get atomized as the air rushes in and deposit itself on the MAF and affect how it meters the incoming air.
Give that a try and let us know if it works.

everything was brand new.. the filter came pre-oiled by stillen the gap im talking about is located between the plastic housing and the maf sensor.. in other words filter--metal velocity piece -- plastic house -(gap is here)- maf sensor.. i dont know if that affects it.. i'll try to retighten everything... i dont believe its the maf sensor.. at all otherwise it would read the wrong air even when im driving slow.... my car only acts up when im running it hard aka redlining 3rd gear

Edit: I just saw that you have an 03. NM then.
you could but it's probably not the best way to go. Something's gotta be stuck or warped or something. It should sit flush with no gaps. It's just really hard to tell what it is or could be without actually looking at it.
Have you tried reseating/reinstalling it yet like you said earlier?
