CAIs in Florida
CAIs in Florida
I just recently acquired my beautiful G35 Coupe in June and I can't imagine loving a car more. It works perfectly in all conditions and I'd hate to see that change. It's because of this that I'm somewhat hesitant regarding the purchase of any new gear.
I've been reading this forum for a few days now, skimming through posts relating to cold air intake systems and the like, and I've noticed people commenting on hot weather ruining the efficacy of these systems. Now, I live in South Florida, and if anyone's ever lived here (vacationing doesn't count), you know how hot it always is, discounting those two weeks of 60s in December. It's consistantly in the 90s at this time of the year, and even worse in mid-Summer.
Would it still be beneficial to purchase a cold air intake system or would it be too risky considering the weather? Any information would be much appreciated.

Re: CAIs in Florida
Bro,
I have lived out in Miami Lakes my whole life, and the only CAI that i would recommend is the combo of Stillen and the 350z intake tube!
We get too much heavy rain that floods the streets for you to safely use the injen, i sometimes have to wade through 10+ inches of water as you prob have to too!
K&N was going to come out sometime soon with a supposedly really nice CAI for our cars, but they have yet to produce on it... i am going to go with the stillen, and z tube.
Good luck man, great purchase!
Peace

Re: CAIs in Florida
I recently moved to Miami but have no CAI... yet. It looks like everybody around here is going for the stillen + 350Z intake tube. I have seen some with injens but I have to back erincimia up. When it rains it pours and so far I haven't seen any deep, deep puddles but why risk getting water in your engine for an insignificant amount of HP (when comparing CAIs)?
I'm holding on to see what K&N brings to the table if they're putting so much time into it, it may be worth it. I'm in no hurry, it's not like there's a dead line to get a CAI. Chill and see what's out there.
Expect the unexpected when you least expect it.

The "Cold" in Cold Air Intake is relative. Fresh air from outside the engine compartment, even if it is 90 degrees, is cooler than the air floating about inside the engine bay being heated up by the engine itself.
Of course, the stock intake on a G35 does a pretty darn good job at sucking cold air through the front grill.
