350Z tube + stock air box, installed

i did it yesterday. took 5min. the sound under 3k is basicly stock. once you go over 3k the sound is deeper and it has more bark to it. for $80 its good for me. also feels like from 4000-6600rpm the revs go up quicker but that might just be in my mind. i have pictures if you would like to see them. i would say the fit of the tube is almost perfect.

The stock tubes have sound chambers and rob some hp. (as well as some nice 'tunes'). The Z is straight thru and all business. No turbulence/no loss of h/p and sound.
You wouldn't notice a 3 to 5 hp gain but I believe it's good for it.

"pleasantly suprised"?
I was not pleasantly suprised when I added the
Stillen box to my 350Z duct......I was stupified by
it!

Re: 350Z tube + stock air box, installed

I have heard some people mention that the Z-tube + a KN air filter in the stock air intake (instead of the Stillen air box) is about the same performance and a lot less expensive!
Any opinions????

That's my set-up. Works and sounds great. IMHO, the 350Z intake is just about perfect, and when we replace the tube we approach the level of the "Z", but because of the higher location, the air we get is not in as high a positive pressure area as the "Z". In any case the stillen and the stock air box both gulp from the same place. Get the K&N.

The Z-tube with a K&N drop in air filter works real good.

The Z-tube + Stillen Airbox works great... adds more noise and also more power.

The Injen CAI is also a great system. Two things to remember if you go with the Injen;

1 - You'll need to modify the air filter area to eliminate the dead air space. Some of the guys are cutting out part of the bumper foam.

2 - You'll want to be careful around deep puddles so you don't hydro-lock your engine.

The K&N flows considerably better than the stock filter. Enough so, that you'll notice a subtle difference in acceleration after changing it out.
