can 2 aramid gaskets be used together?

Hey fellas,

Tony is a bit busy so I thought I'd ask the forum: I received 2 aramid gaskets with my 3/8" isothermal spacer a long while ago. I was thinking I might be able to put the 2nd one on top of the first below the lower collector to provide additional thermal insulation.

Will that work? Safely?

I'd recommend against that. But it's from my previous experience with gaskets (not these types).

One is good enough since it'll expand and filled in the gap and act as a sealant. Two gaskets will have different rates of expansion and won't align correctly with each other (as if they were one piece), this would cause improper seal and may result in leakage.

I don't know about this case, that's why I asked the same question in my other thread as well.

Tony replied and he indicates that the gaskets *can* be stacked:

"And yes, you can stack the gaskets if you like"

Two gaskets made of the same material should behave similarly, so I don't think there would be sealent issues...

(thanks for the quick reply Tony)

what benefit do you think you would be getting by
stacking one on top of the other?

double the thermal insulation properties... The metal surface below the lower collector gets VERY hot.

I will use one simple analogy, would you use TWO condoms at the same time to give you the extra protection?

I guess everyone knows that it is not good to have the condom rubbing against each other. However, for the case of stacking two gaskets, I am not sure but I would definitely NOT stack gaskets

Hi Guys,

Way back when Iso Thermal was first introduced with the 5/16" spacer, I sent out several hundred kits with 2 gaskets.

I sent an extra gasket for the purpose of raising the entire plenum assembly an extra 16th of an inch. This was an optional part of the kit.

It was to explore the limits of how much room was available under the hood of the G and room under the strut bar of the Z.

It turns out that they always fit in the G and only fit about 95% of the time on the Z.

And 95% is too low a number to be acceptable so I kept the kit at one gasket.

In any event, 2 gaskets is perfectly functional if you have the room to fit them.

Tony

The n-9015 is the one to use.
