Front underbody diffuser details

I'm in the middle of an oil change.

I know there are supposed to be 14 bolts on the underbody diffuser. There were only 12. The rear two bolts were missing, causing the back of the diffuser to flop a little low. Not to mention, there was a piece of trash wedged into the top side of the diffuser in a way that could only have been done when it wasn't on the car. I'll be having a little chat with my service advisor.. they did the first oil change (it was a freebie).

Also, isn't there supposed to be some sort of cover for the hole in the diffuser that's directly underneath the oil pan drain? I need to know if it's supposed to be open, or if they need to get me a new cover flap.

Ryoken, No cover for the drain plug opening on my Coupe and there wasn't on my Sedan either.
I'm surprised they lost only 2 bolts from the cover. LOL

My dealer didn't lose 2 bolts but they stripped 2 of them. :-( I think they used a torque wrench to tighten 'em.

Instead of removing the whole thing, I just took out the 4-5 bolts on the passenger side. This allowed me enough access to reach in there and unscrew the filter. The oil from the filter still drains out of the opening. I didn't see the point in removing all 14 bolts.

I didn't think I could manage getting all the oil to come through that little hole without splashing all over the diffuser.

I'm going to swing by the dealer and get two more bolts tomorrow.

ryoken,

Two things you might want to consider when you're replacing the missing bolts. Blue Locklite and verifying all the bolts for tightness including the four that hold the smaller diffuser just aft (swabby talk) of the large one. While driving at 85mph I had one of the factor installed bolts fall out of the front right corner of the smaller diffuser... The loud flapping noise scared the hell out of me.

I don't remember my loctite colors.. is blue a permanent or temporary one?

Dealer put the two bolts in for me this morning. I forgot to tell them not to wash the car, and wound up waiting longer than I wanted -- oh well. Spent the time sitting in an FX35 in the showroom.
