Long-body floor jack?

Anyone try using the AC DK13HLQ long body floor jack on the G yet? I'd like to put the whole front-end up to work on it but don't know if even the DK13 will work on the G. The center jackpoint is almost 36" in when going from the front.

Anyone use this (or similar) jack on the G yet?

Re: Long-body floor jack?

I have an SUV jack. The SUV jack claims to lift the vehicle
higher than "other" jacks. It does indeed lift pretty high.
But it is not high enough for my tastes for the G35. That
damn lower engine cover sure is a pain in the as* for
those of us who would like to change our own oil.

Re: Long-body floor jack?

Yea, I'm not worried about how high it lifts, but I do want to know if it reaches to the center of the car.

To lift the whole front or rear at one time, you need to reach the center lift points, which are directly between the front and rear wheels. Going in from the front (to change your oil for example) requires a reach of almost 36". Most standard jacks are less than 30" long to begin with.

Sometimes this isn't a problem because you can just have limited handle travel until the car rises a bit, then increase the travel as the clearance increases. However, the coupe sits so low, particularly if you have the front underbody diffuser, that most jacks dont fit under it to begin with. That's why I'm asking about this jack in particular (The AC DK13HLQ) because it is very low and very long; it's designed for performance cars, and costs ~$400. I just want to know if anyone has used it on the G coupe (since it's lower/wider than the sedan).

Anyone?

Re: Long-body floor jack?

roll your car up on a couple two x sixes or some concrete block to get the extra couple inches of clearance you need. I use a standard floor jack on my sedan (which is not as low as the coupe, but it does require some extra clearance.

As for whoever is pulling the lower engine cover off when changine the oil, stop! The sedan has a cutout to get to the filter and plug which works well. as long as there is a slight tilt down on the left side the oil will come out without making a huge mess.

if you don't have a cutout, make one

That cutout is there to dare you to use it so the oil pan and filter can splash all over the top side of that diffuser panel in the slightest of breezes.

Re: Long-body floor jack?

I thought about using the cutout, then I decided not to. There are 20 screws holding my underbody cover on (four for the front diffuser), plus one center fastener. I took out the bolts, and spun the cover 180 degrees on the fastener and got complete access. Without removing the cover, I'm certain I would have got oil on the top of it, particularly when changing out the filter.

Re: Long-body floor jack?

yeah you will spill some but if you put a good bunch of paper towels up there, you will catch what little you spill from the oil filter, (maybe a cup (8oz)) at the most. A few shop towels will keep that from ever touching the diffuser thing. from the plug it drains perfectly.

And there is no wind in my garage.

I understand those that want to pull it off each time, as I pull off my skid plate on my jeep every time I do my oil on that (only 4 bolts though)

The undercover bolt/screws come out extremely easily, about one second each with a screw gun. They go in just as easily. You can also inspect the underside very well with it removed.

Yea, it's a bit of work, but my last change only cost $8.
