Jacks
Jacks
Anyone have experience with one of these air powered jacks? Even though my coupe is on stock suspension, my regular floor jack barely clears the car, and jacking it up is a pain in the butt, because the bar hits the lip, so it takes seriously like 15 minutes to jack up the car, using a screwdriver.... And the car won't clear my ultra-ramps, even with the low-profile extenders...
Since I bought a shiny air-compressor the other day, I was curious about getting an air-powered jack, but never had experience with one. I found incredibly expensive air powered hydraulic floor jacks for like $1000. Cheapest I found was like $289, plus like $100 shipping, cause the jack weighs like 100 pounds. But I found this thing at Costco for $149, and thought it looked decent enough. It has 5"-17" lift, which is actually better than my hydraulic floor jack.
What do you guys think?

Never considered an air jack. My only concern would be its durability while having the car up on it. I would definately recommend putting some jack stands as added support just in case. A blowout or air leak could lead to some major injuries.
Just make sure it will fit under where you want to put it. The one with 17.5" of lift is also a min of 6.5" tall. I'm not sure if that will fit under the car. Measure and if it does, let me know how it works, looks awesome.

i've seen mechanics use this for a quick look under the car. i was surprise how quick and easy it was to use. put it under the jack point, pump air into it and up it goes.

yeah. you should be using jack stands no matter how you do it.
Yeah, no question about the jack stands. I already have 4 of em'
I saw the min of 6.5", but I think that will still work.
The floor jack I have now, has a chassis height of 6.25" (I measured it). And it scrapes the lower engine cover when I wheel it under the car. However the center jack point is higher than the engine cover. So I figure I can slide the air-jack around the lower-engine cover, and there should be plenty of space under the jack point. I'll probably measure just to be sure.
Edit: Dangit
It might not fit. The side jack point is exactly 6.5", so it probably wont fit under the side-sills. And the front jack point. Looks like it too is around exactly 6.5" high, and all the suspension components hang down much lower, so I have no idea how I would slide the jack in there
If only the 2 bag version had a better lift height than 12"

get the two bag, jack it till max height, put jackstands on, lower jack, stack a couple 2x4's so they wont wobble, jack it up again, readjust jack stands, done!
