Question SP grill quality, painting, etc...

Since no one has Gialla in stock, I went ahead with the replica SP grill. $180 shipped wasn't a bad deal either, but now that I received the grill it's a bit disappointing. I haven't done the fit test yet, but so far I'm just concerned about the mesh quality:

- It's held in place by about 10 metal retainers: just bent wires. Does not look secure?
- Seems to be kind of flimsy: too thin?
- Does not bend over the contour of the frame too well?

Those of you with this grill - what are your thoughts on the mesh? Have you been able to replace it or modify in any form? Also, did you paint it flat black or same color as the rest of the frame?

Has anyone been able to compare genuine Gialla to SP grills? Any feedback on the difference in quality between the two? Especially when it comes to mesh, mesh mounting, and the overall pre-paint finish/condition? THANKS!

p.s. those of you considering SP grill - give it a try, I'm just ranting because it looked much cleaner in pictures than in person, but I'm really picky anyway.

the mesh is fine. its secure.

youll soon learn that wire mesh is CRAP. get some mesh from customautomesh.com

its a black plastic mesh that wont chip.

extreme4377 has the sp grille and i thought it was an authentic. the earlier generation sp grilles had crappy fitment. new ones should be fine as long as you fit it well.

Great, thanks!

Excellent, thanks for advice on the customautomesh.com. Just ordered the grill and the OEM bumper mesh from them. I think their product might solve my concern, plus I don't have to worry about painting it now!

One more newb question about painting the grill frame and also my new UTR lip spoiler... what would be a reasonable amount to pay for painting both parts? I got a quote for $375 which seems waaay too steep. What are you guys paying for painting your grills and small spoilers?

I'll post pix once it's painted and has a new mesh on!

Hero, where do you get your paint/bodykit work done? I noticed you're in Socal. I live in Newport. I've heard that MOBworks does a good job but are kinda pricey. Any suggestions? Sorry for hijacking this post.

Ive got the SP grill. It's a replica of the Gialla like Calvin said. I got it back in mid-June. I paid $170 shipped for the grill, $120 to paint, $44 for labor to sand it down and get out any imperfections($164 total for paint and labor). Total for grill, labor, and paint: $334.
Bulletproof charges about $315 plus shipping and then you have to get it painted. Why go authentic for such a small piece when you can pay half for a replica thats identical? No fitment issues for me

I got the SP grill, it did not fit well out of the box. It had to be refiberglassed in areas to make it fit better. And to top it off, it was kinda thin, and flimsy.

I am making a new, better one with a local shop. It is going to fit better and it is going to be thick. Should be done within the next week or so. We have a prototype that I do not want to share just yet
