sedan aftermarket wing from dealer
sedan aftermarket wing from dealer
So I just bought an 05 sedan automatic from infiniti dealer. I negotiated a rear spoiler to be installed. They said it'll look exactly like the OEM spoilers on a sedan, with brakes lights. But its an aftermarket. I only hope they will take off the 3rd brake light that is now there on the back window. Anyone had a dealer install an aftermarket spoiler?
Why do I bother to DIY???

I wouldn't put an aftermarket one on. I have one on my car and regret it. The LED portion doesn't look the same and the light is a lower quality...overall finish is decent, but you can tell the quality isn't the same. I hate mine...I want a lip spoiler
Make them put on an OEM if it isn't too late.

I too like the lip spoiler more than "OEM-look"...I think it looks cleaner...But from experience, dealer aftermarket installs are ok. At least they'll cover it if anything breaks (or confirm with them since they say it's aftermarket).
in regard to the 3rd light... if it wasnt part of your agreement witht them.. i doubt they will touch it because it requires a new rear dash with no hole in it.. what i did with min is just unplugged it and tint covers it up
ahh..the lip spoiler does look good. hmm..i'll let them install the aftermarket and see what it looks like. I'll keep in eye on the lights to make sure they are at least ok..i'm not really picky and if it's really hard to tell the difference, i'll be ok with it.
the light on the spoiler IS part of the agreement...but i didn't mention to them that i'd like the 3rd brake light out. I am assuming that this dealer will do a complete job and take care of that...if not, i'll bring it up.
you have a picture of the aftermarket spoiler?

crap..just thought of something..will it be too late to install a lip spoiler AFTER the wing is put on? like will there be holes on my trunk that needs to be covered up?
^^^as I was just reading through this now, I was wondering how you were going to try a lip spoiler AFTER a trunk spoiler. Yea you should have holes to hold down the trunk spoiler.

Yup holes in the trunk....can't do it after. If anything, I'd get the lip spoiler first and try it for awhile...then swap it later if you like the wing still.
i did a search and found out that there's quite a bit of debate over which wing is better. the oem look or the lip. i know once i get oem look, switching to lip will be hard.
i read a post where someone said that the lense for the LED lights on the aftermarket spoiler can be changed to clear so the light will be brighter.. i'm interested in that.. i think it's more of a saftey issue more and anything.

from my experience in my previous car, the aftermarket LED bulbs are very small. The OEM LED bulbs on the wing is the same size as the tail lights and flow very well. However, the aftermarket size might be way smaller thus having more bulbs...is it making sense? Here...i'll draw a diagram
[O O O O O] - OEM LED's
[..............] - aftermarket LED's

I love my lip spoiler. Got it off ebay shipped and painted for $60. 5 minutes to measure up and install, and it's held very well. If you hate it, you can always peel it off and buff the paint (or so I hope it's that easy).
Well I'm bringing my car in on Thursday to have the wing put on. I was very impressed when they said they give me a loaner car. I thought maybe they'd only give me a loaner if it was warranty work. This isn't warranty work, just something we negotiated.
