Help!! removing paint from tail lights

Hi guys.

So I had purchased my G back in June and the original owner had decided to "tint" the tail lights.(it's actually some kind of paint) Well, fast forward to last week and I finally get lit up by the local law enforcement and I get a ticket for the tail lights. I was planning on eventually removing the paint, but I never got around to it and now I'm forced to act.

So is there a good way to remove the paint off of the tail lights and get them back to looking like they did when they were new??

I went to a tint shop and they were no help (told me to buy another set )

I can post pics too but Im sure you know what they like.

So give me a suggestion please, I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Careful with paint stripping stuff, it might eat plastic. Maybe try something like goofoff or goo gone first.

damn, thought someone else was bound to have done this before. Thought I would get a few more responses. I tried nail polish remover for the hell of it and that didnt do squat. So I will be trying out some acetone this week and see what happens.

I have heard that brake cleaner will remove paint, anyone care to comment on that.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I was having the same issue before but with headlights. Here's what you do, get some paint thinner, and a big bottle of hand sanitizer lol, yes hand sanitizer and preferabely the ones with the highest alcohol %. You spread hand sanitizer all over the lenses and leave it on there for a couple hours. After waiting, you need to literally scrub the **** out of lights with a towel or something. Concentrate on small areas at once. This should remove most of the paint and paint thinner should remove the little tine spots left after.

Now that took care of the paint but left the lights looking dull, hazy, and scuffed up so I bought POLYHOG headlight restoration system and it returned the headlights back to new.
Good luck.

Acetone/finger nail polish remover will work, but it takes a lot of time.
