Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) vs. carbon fiber (CF) hood?

What are the pros/cons of FRP vs. CF for my new hood? I guessed the CF is lighter...but could I paint it black to match my ride? Not a huge fan of the CF look. And if the two weigh similar amounts, and I'm only paying for the "look" of CF, I'd rather get the plastic....unless there are any other benefits of CF I'm not aware of?

The price diff between the two - CF, $1500 and FRP, $790 - warrants a close look at each.

Can you guys help?

What hoods are you looking at? The real TS ones? Basically if you don't like the look of CF you shouldn't get it. It is a little lighter than FRP but that amount is negligible. CF is supposed to be strong but with all of the problems people have been having with CF hoods lately seriously makes me doubt the quality of CF that is being used and how the body parts are being constructed.

I'm looking at the Chargespeed hood:

Sounds like I should go with the FRP version...for some reason I read somewhere that CF was stronger and held up better over time. You guys think differently?

Most CF hoods are just FRP hoods with a carbon fiber topsheet so they should weigh the same

Thanks, you guys heard of any issues with the FRP hoods vs. CF? Does one seem to hold against chips or wear better?
