How much should a full paint job cost?

Sometime next year when I'm done paying off the car, I'm going to have the car re-painted to get rid of all the dings and scratches around.

Does anyone know how much a full paint job should run?

A paint job ranges drastically all over the board depending on the quality of the work (painting jams, engine bay, etc etc). I once paid for a paint job for about 2k and change on a classic mustang. While it looked good to the average viewer, it wasn't a very good job at all. I have seen some other "great" paint jobs (according to the pictures) that a user said ran him around 8k or so.

6-8k is what a decent paint job should be. Of course it can vary but they tend to be around that area.

Man 6-8k they better paint my car some lambo orange or something. Thats a lot of money for a paint job. I was under the impression that a good paintjob was still under 5k. I am talking about a pearl or maybe metallic at highest, not a color shift or anything. Maybe a color shift chameleon paint will run that high upwards of 6k..... I dont know i just think its insane amount of money for paint. Maybe a base + clearcoat would be somethig like 2k-3k if you just want to repaint and a GOOD job.....????

The paint cost is negligible compared to prep. If you want it done right then then they are going to properly prep the entire car and not just spray paint.

Ok and your point being? Sorry i am not trying to be rude i just dont understand how your statement relates to what i mentioned above?

From my interpretation, what you are trying to say is that it does not matter matter the cost of the paint itself, but the work going into the prep of the car. Last time i checked, they werent charging over 3k for just a spray of paint...... Its an all inclusive package, means prep + paint.

So once again

Probably just labor, you were probably supplying the paint then. There is a big difference between Ferrari/lambo paint and a regular base + clear... Not bad pricing though, thats real reasonable coming from a reputable shop.
