I did, but painting aircraft is one of the thing I do for my job. Also the overlays I have before look like crap.

I still think I need a few more coats, and when that is done, I'll get them a clear coat of paint at a body shop.

Thanks.
I used regular masking tape to tape of the circles, but blue painters tape is easier to work with. As for the perfect circles, painting aircraft has a lot to do with that. Also I didn't sand the lights before paint, because I don't want to risk any damage. I use Adhesion Promoter ( like 2 coats), and I started to tint.

I would go with Bat's again, cause at least you can rip them off and try again, with spray tinting you can't really start over. It's a lot cheaper to buy new overlays than new taillights. It takes skill, weather, humidity, and other considerations for the spraying to come out as good as the overlays. Good luck.
if you ****ed up on the tailights by spray painting them cant you sand them down and restore them? kinda like the headlight restoring method of sanding down and the lens becomes clear
Bringing this thread back. I'm going to tint my tailights in a few weeks. I hear you can take off the tint if you use some brake cleaner. Spray on and wipe off. CityMunky can you post some more pics of your tails? how many coats of tint did you put on your tails? I like it but it might be too dark for me. My shop said they are gonna put on 2 coats. Also, can you go into detail about how you masked off the lights so tint didnt go over a certain area? My shop said it'd be really hard to do that so I should tint the whole thing.

I did it a long time ago and it came out too dark and kinda like crap, I've since redone them to a much lighter shade and they do look good, except they're completely matte, theres no gloss and no shine to them whatsoever. I guess I could spray some clear coat over but I'm too lazy.
here's how they look now with a very light coat
