Angry Torque wrench 1, Hood studs 0

So i sheered off my hood studs...

Question now, is how to fix? Think i can get a shop with a TIG welder (aluminum hood) to secure a new one up there for me? Is there an easier way that i could do it myself?

By forgetting how to read a torque wrench. Borrowed a buddies and set it like I always do on my old and it was the reverse on his. Set it too high.

Was like a scene out of a comedy. Torqued the first, wrench clicked, torqued the other side, wrench clicked. All looked well. Grab the hood to close it and both studs drop, at the same time. Let out a few choice words then but i can laugh at it now

Never felt the bolt twist, etc.

That sucks man. I'm sure a body shop can weld that back up there if you need to. and rethread it if needed.

I'm going to pull the hood this weekend and see if by some miracle they are screw in style studs. Somehow i doubt it, but i got to take a look. Just have to be sure to match it back up with my marks

But if that doesn't pan out, i'm on the hunt for a decent shop. You're fairly close, any recommendations?

Well, no one wanted to weld the studs back for liability purposes. So i ended up ordering a new hood from the dealer.

Hood w/ Tax - $675. Spray ~$700 So pay attention kids, not reading a torque wrench can cause you close to $1400

I get it back this weekend. Saw some of the shop's other work, so I think they'll do alright. But in the meanwhile, dealer gave me an 08 sedan to tool around in. Pretty nice ride

sux to be you man.

could have taken to some none very "politically correct" shop and have them weld the hinge to the hood.

Just couple of taps and it would be as good as new.

Thought about it, but it just so happens i had the cash this time, and it gets rid of some deep scratches and a dent on the body line from @#$@#'s not tying **** down in their trucks. Sucks to get hit by random crap at 70mph...
