Painting grill black tommorow, leave emblem chrome?
Hey guys, I am getting my front grill painted black tommorow for $150.00. I really can't make up my mind as to whether or not i should paint the infiniti emblem black or leave it chrome. (My G is black and at some point in the near future i want to paint the headlight housings black or POSSIBLY buy those incredibly overprices angel eyes from clearcorners.com.) I have seen the pictures in the sedan thread of the guy who damaged his grill and painted it black but left the emblem chrome, it looks very nice, but i still cant decide.
So I'm just looking for some friendly opinions on this topic....paint it black or leave it chrome?

Here's what I'd do. Leave it chrome, but don't install it. Look at it from a distance and you'll see basically what it would look like with a black emblem. Then pop it on and see if you like that better. If you like it black, have that painted. If you paint it off the bat, then you'll have to buy a new one if you don't like it. Then post some pics for us will you?

That post was mine. How about photoshoping my picture to change the logo to black? Put the pics side-by-side and compare. I like the chrome logo.
That's what I did when I wanted to see what it would look like. Just for fun...let's see:
My PS skills suck, so you may need to play around with it to make it look better.

John

Re: Painting grill black tommorow, leave emblem chrome?
I decided to paint the whole grill black. If I dont like it i will just buy the chome infiniti emblem. Here is a pic of someone elses G with the blacked out grill and emblem.
Also, i was told that the paint will chip very easily because the grill is plastic and they dont strip the chrome off, they just scratch it off and that i will need to repaint the grill often. Any comments on that??

Just out of curiousity, does anyone think that there is any difference in the way the guy in the pictures i just posted painted his grill, the way ducatiguy used to paint them and the way the guy with the sedan painted it? Or is the process and paint the same with all grills? Maybe thats a dumb question...im just a little worried about what the body shop said about the grill being prone to chipping easily.

I think the biggest part is in the preparation of your grille......
It's important to create a good surface for the paint to adhere to.....
If they removed some or all of the chrome finish, and sanded the area, primed then used a good quality paint with maybe some impact coating mixed in or flex agent, I'm sure it will hold up just a well as the rest of the paint on your car (and yes, I know many are not too happy with infiniti's paint)
My point is any painted part is susceptible to damage from rocks etc.....but if painted properly, it should hold up for many years. And Yes, you may have to repaint it from time to time or touch it up depending on your driving habits.....
My chrome grille is already showing signs of wear from rocks/stone chipping.....so it couldn't be much worse than what infiniti gives us anyway.....Paint it and enjoy!
