Howcome Infiniti replaced my headlights?

Hey,

I haven't posted here in a while, but I brought my 06 G35 Coupe in for service today and the service advisor said that they are going to replace my headlights due to a recall. I was hesitant at first, but since it is under warranty, why the hell not. Anyways, what was wrong with the original headlights? I have not had any problems to date and they definitely did change the entire headlamp assemblies. Brand new housing and all new bulbs. Also my car is drinking oil like it has an alcohol problem. It doesn't matter if I use full synthetic or the dealership's synthetic blend.

Thanks,
MrElussive

VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN 2006–2007 INFINITI G35 COUPE HEADLAMPS
Infiniti has determined that on some model year 2006 through 2007 Infiniti G35 Coupe vehicles, the headlamps fail to comply with certain requirements set forth in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108.
The standard specifies, among other things, the performance requirements for headlamps in passenger vehicles. One of these requirements specifies the vertical gradient values for headlamps. Another specifies minimum and maximum light intensity of headlamps at certain test points. The headlamps in the vehicles
subject to this TSB may not meet these requirements. This means that the headlamp aim may be difficult to adjust. Also, the headlamps may be too dim when viewed at certain angles. Reduced visibility increases the risk of your vehicle being involved in a crash. Improper aiming of headlamps can increase glare. To correct this condition, Infiniti is conducting a Voluntary Recall Campaign to replace the existing headlamps
with new and compliant lamps free of charge.

I'm guessing you have a 6MT. Go back to the dealer and have them do an oil consumption test.

...and with regards to your G being an oilaholic, this is a problem most commonly seen in 6MT's. Have the dealer start an oil consumption test. They may have to replace your engine.

Thanks for the posts, guys. My car is in fact a 6MT. I am just going to keep driving the vehicle and doing the oil & filter change at the appropriate intervals because the engine isn't complaining when it is low on oil and I am still getting appropriate fuel economy.

As for the headlights, I will drive around tomorrow night and see if I notice anything different. The positioning and angle of the xenons seem to be different from the outside compared to the old headlamps.

Not a great idea, IMO.

Oil consumption issues....screw the headlights!

If your '06 G35 is using oil you need to have the dealership keep track of it
and get the test started before your engine takes a ****! Do a search here
on Driver for the qualifications for testing, I believe it's one quart every 1K
miles....check it out! Nissan is very aware of this issue!

why would you want to waste your money on unnecessary oil when you can get a brand new engine with 0 miles on it! haha

if you do have a oil consumption problem, in a few months you wont have a running engine to do your oil changes to.

Screw it, it's leased. I'll keep an eye on the oil level and fill it up if it needs it, but I only drive it once or twice a week. If it dies, I have my daily driver.
