03 Sedan Headlights - What to do? Polish them? Paint them? Replace them?

What's up guys?

The headlights on my 03 G35 sedan are just horrible looking (i'll be posting a picture later on today). I've gotten them polished by a guy who does this on faded/yellowish old looking headlaps. I noticed he used the wet sanding method that worked for about 3 months before they went back to the nasty meldow, yellow look they get. I've used Plastix to clean them and that last about a month and now even though i can manage to get them to some sort of decent look, you still can see a yellowish tint on them unlike the shiny, clear, clean look you see on new headlights.
I'm at the point that I dont know what to do, I have the factory HID kit and I'm cosidering giving this lights a try:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XENON...mZ360102128190

which come with their own HID kit yet i dont know if they'll plug right into the car's headlight hardness. I know ebay doesnt have the best quality headlights but at this point "anything" will look better than what i have in my car.
I even thought about giving this lights a try (for $224 shipped) while i take the time to maybe take apart the factory ones, wet sand them, paint them (black to match the car) and then maybe put them back. but again, i dont know if the ebay ones will be a plug and play connection. Is the car's headlight hardness the same for the HID or non HID headlamps? I was hoping the plug is the same and the only diferent is that the HID ones have the HID module but use the same plug.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

This confirms my suspicion that wetsanding ruins the lights. I did this on my bimmer years ago and it came out fantastic. It lasted a few months and the haze came back with a vengeance. It became a constant maintenance hassle after that. I'm guessing that once you sand off the smooth top layer of the headlight, it becomes very vulnerable to the elements forcing you to constantly polish them to keep them looking good. My lights have alot of pitting which I was really tempted to wetsand, but I was too afraid to do it. I just live with the little nicks and use car polish to keep the rest looking crystal clear.

Dont buy those lights. Just replace the outside or get some custom projectors installed.

I was suggested to go this route while back (replacing the lense) yet I cant find it anywhere. I would like that options as I would probably just paint the inside while i'm at it (i belive you also need to put them in the oven in order to remove the lense and install the new one) "but" i cant find them anywhere.

TheTick,

That's probably true except I had polish them with Plastix and even something called BRASO before i got the wetsanding done to them. I dont have a camera on me right now but I will post a pic... my lights are just bad... I think the only route to fix it is going with Naughty's suggestion (which sounds good except i cant find the lense anywhere) or just replace the lights which can be pretty expensive if i go with another set of factory ones or go with the ebay ones which he suggested not to do so... this sucks dude!

Don't wetsand your lights.

There is a UV coating on the lenses that resists the yellowing/fading. Wetsanding will remove even more of it.

The best way to keep them clear is to polish them and then apply a headlight film, like Laminex or anything that has a UV barrier in it. Your headlights will be protected from stone chips and won't yellow out as quickly.

itgogitrev,

Now i know better unfortunately that's a bit late in my case since it has been done already and now they're just bad looking.... I think i'm going to buy the ebay ones and see how they turn out... $200 doesnt seem like a bad price and I'm sure they'll look better than my current ones.
