Just a bit of an update. I had so much paint that was sprayed unevenly, plus fingerprints from touching to early that sanding it would take forever. I got some Goo Gone Xtreme and soaked it/rubbed it off with a terry cloth and that got all the paint off.

I sanded with 600, 1500, and 2000 grit afterward. Right now I sprayed a layer of paint and the tip was acting up a little so I had some orange peel and some portions where the surface isn't completely flat. I'm a bit disappointed and I'm going to see how it come out after its dry. I'll even sand it down a little more and clear coat it to see how it looks, but I may just use the Goo Gone Xtreme again and leave it the way it was.

When I get my roof painted black I'll have the painter do the side triangle pieces as well. I guess I'll wait 20 minutes and see.

 

I just took mine to body shop and had the mirror base painted to match body color. Looks great and was not that much $$..

It was $100 per side. Something to do with extra work to make the paint adhere since the surface is of different texture. It was worth it for me. I was tired of seeing the black stuff starting to fade and look ugly.

 

That's a lot. Save yourself some $$$ and remove the mirror yourself. Drop off just the mounts at the body shop. I had mine done for less than $100.

I was thinking of doing that exact thing. Body color match the mirror mount.

Wow....thats alot of effort....lol I just had my paint shop do this and they charged me $50 bucks for both mirrors painted CB. After seein all this, its def worth it. Painted mirrors FTW....good job

 

Turned out nice! I forgot I never posted pics of mine. The gloss black came out REALLY nice, however, I didn't do as good of a job as it should be. There are some orange peel looking spots (on the bottom) but other than that they come out pretty good. From far they look sweet, close up, you can see the imperfections.

 

+1. You'll need to apply slight pressure to pry the actual mirror from it's mount as it snaps in place. Once that's done, remove the mirror mount from the housing and then depress the spring so the the whole assy can be removed from the housing. When you remove the harness, mark the the wires so you put them back in correctly or you'll have reversed motor function from the switch.

 

Hey guys, I figured I'd post here instead of creating another thread. Yes, I know this is an old thread.

If anyone has DIYed this or even had a shop do it, please post pictures!! Im contemplating tackling this project next weekend. Im sick of seeing how faded my mirror bases have become on my 03 coupe Im particularly interested on those who DIYed this, and how it turned out since it appears difficult to get even coats. Also, any prep work besides a good sanding job?? Thanks so much!!

 

I thought I had posted pictures somewhere. There's been a couple times where people have asked for pics in other threads and I had pics, I just can't recall which threads they were in.

 

There is a picture, but I'm interested in a fully assembled picture on the car.

 

Oh...that's not a problem. I'll take one. Although I should redo mine. I could see areas where the paint is coming off. But it did well for a job I didn't put too much effort in. Lasted about 5 years and some crazy hot summers. I'll take a pic in a few mins.
