Aluminum dash discoloration?

Greetings. I'm posting this to see if anyone else has a similar issue. I have a 2006 G35 Coupe with aluminum dash inserts. Over the past 2+ years I have had three inserts replaced above the ash tray area because the piece turned a brown color. I have never used the ash tray. My warranty is running out soon and I'd like to see if this is happening to others.

Thanks.

I had to have my aluminum dash replaced due to it turning a yellowish color. They said it's very common in our area because of the heat etc etc...so yea they replaced it for free.

As I mentioned, the dash insert has been replaced under warranty three times. The dealer is telling me that they have never seen this sort of thing. I could not believe I was the only one. The warranty is running out soon and I do not want to be responsible for something a year from now when it is happening again.

Thanks to all who reply.

So what kind of answer were you looking for again? Just to see if anyone else has had the problem? Tell them that since this is a recurring problem, that if this happens again, you want it in writing that they will replace it in the future, regardless of warranty.

Dem's idea is good, couldn't hurt to try. Is it possible that exposure to sunlight is causing this area to deteriorate and by using a sun screen or
better yet a car cover you could solve your problem? The use of a car cover will save both your paint and interior, even my wife uses one....religously!

Yeah Gary, that's what the dealer told me, that it had to do w/ sunlight exposure

How is it possible you don't understand, had you read my post the
answer is there....over exposure to the sun! In the western states and
down south it gets really HOT inside your car even in the winter. So
if your car is left outside the sun is cooking your interior/dash. Get a
carcover, no direct sunlight....problem solved! (again)

buy a sun visor/shade. its like 10 bucks i think at kragen/ walmart
I have the round ones that you can fold. I store it behind the passenger seat.
Work really well. Also if its Hot outside open the window a tad bit so the heat can vent out

For the dash i use 303 Aerospace Protectant.
