Full LED Taillights

I'm producing a taillight kit to upgrade the blinkers to full LED instead of the incandescent bulb that is currently in there. I'm wondring if anybody else feels like the taillights should be full LED instead of half/half like they are now. I love the look of the brake lights, but why didn't they make the blinkers the same?? What I'm thinking about doing is creating a taillight set that has an animated pattern of lights chasing to the outside point of the blinker housing. I think this would look awesome.. But I'm looking for public oppinion to tell me if I'm off my rocker and if this is silly looking!

Re: Full LED Taillights

I'm sure it would look great, but I must say the taillights look pretty damn hot as it is. Not many cars have taillights that look so cool at night.

NO cars have tailights that look this cool at night...I know there's hotter more expensive rides out there but nothing beats these tailights...Atleast not in my opinion...But upgraded blinkers may look nice..

Re: Full LED Taillights

That's what I'm thinking too.. These taillights look awesome at night. I think a suprise LED light filling to the right when the blinker was on would be the icing on the cake. I'm going to produce a couple and put them on my G. I've got to get some oppinion on them cause I think it would rock to not only have full LED taillights but an animated pointing blink would kick ***. How many cars have that?? :-)

it does sound pretty good, at least in theory. I would probably support that too. Definitely keep us posted.

I think it would look cool if the blinkers were like the new l.e.d. lights on the new Range Rover. With the blinker in the middle and the brake light surrounding it. Just an opinion.

I think I just found what I have been looking for..... Can somebody with some electrical experience teach me how to regulate the voltage of the LED do they can be run off the stock turn signal wires?

Re: Full LED Taillights

It kinda depends on the type of LEDs you have and the load that they will pull. Are they wired in parralell or series? Probably they will run off of the 12 volts that you supply through the blinker signal, but the brightness might not be adequate. Or perhaps too bright if they're 9 volt LEDs in which case you'll end up burning them out. You should also consider the way in which you mount them. These enclosures are freken tanks. I'm having a hard time even engineering how to theoretically take one apart and put it back together again.

that's cool. I'm down to be a guinee pig. I'm just wondering about the wiring though.

Where is the power wire going to splice into? If you connect it to the running won't it dim the rest of the LED's? This is the only reason why I haven't messed with the rear lights yet. Should a capacitor be used ?

Re: Full LED Taillights

Alright, I am kind of stuck since my car is on the other end of the continent right now. Can someone post a picture of the coupe tail lamp assembly from the back side. Specificly the turn signal socket without the light bulb in there.

If I recall correctly, the opening to the turn signal housing is quite small. I am not sure I would be able to fit these circular LED board in there.

Secondly, what I am planning to do is NOT to replace turn signals with LEDs. I am try to tie in the circular pattern LED to the running light/brake light and have it function together like the other LED lamps. The turn signal bulb base would go though the center of the hole and blink as usual.

In the mean time, I need to find the right resistor before I blow my fuse out. Update when I get back to Boston to finish the work.
