Question A few questions about roof overlays?

Okay, we are getting close to spring, and I want to get a few more little mods on my car for the warm weather.

I want to get a roof and rear valance overlay from Blue Bat, but I have a coupld questions for people who already have them.

I'm worried about the roof overlay because its such a big piece of vinyl. How does it hold up against scratches from washing, and has anyone had any problems with the vinly comming off or fading really bad in the sun. Had anyone had to remove a roof overlay yet, how does the paint look after having it removed? I would just have it painted, but the car is a lease, so I would have to get it painted back to IP at the end of the lease.

Who around here can do a good job on the install of an overlay that big?

its not that big because it is 2 pieces with a seam on the roof. Find someone who can do it in 1 piece IMO. As for scratching, imo vinyl is too soft of a material and scratches relatively easily. It also cannot be repaired like paint can

why not just paint it black? The cost of the overlay is 75 dollars and painting it shouldnt be much more.

i have an overlay....paint it! if you can afford it...i wasn't sold that i would like the painted roof on my car+you can remove it at anytime, but paint will look better...even when freshly detailed you don't get those real deep/wet reflections

I saw an overlay on a coupe and it had horrible swirls on it. Totally turned me off from going that route.

Hella jdm (Ryan) had a gloss black one on his car for over a year. He was actually the first to have my roof overlay. Quick detailer and light wax will help keep the overlay looking like new with a nice glossy finish. There was no affect on his paint when he removed it it .

painting a roof costs anywhere from $250-$350 depending on if you have a sunroof or not. So that's quite a bit more than the roof overlay.

HAhah yea, any bodyshop around here that I could trust would charge 350-450$ to do a good job. I'm sure I could find a shop to do it for 150$, but they would be using newspaper and duct tape to mask the car, and krylon to paint it lol

G35 Coupe "Sport Package"
I was quoted a price of $300 to do the vinyl roof on my coupe with no sunroof! I thought that was a bit expensive even if they are using 3M film. this is the same shop that did my windows and clear bra with 3M film and they do excellent work, but I think I could get it painted for about the same cost and it would look 10 times better IMO.
