^^^

Agreed, that's what I'm doing. I originally had it painted gloss black and had the emblem chrome and it looked pretty good. But I took it off and saw it from a distance without the emblem and it looked sooooooooo much better. Now I'm doing the emblemless part and it's been 3 long weeks. Wish I had a mold maker. Doing by hand ftl.

Wait a second... As far as I'm concerned, the stock grill IS black chrome. It's super dark, but highly reflective, I don't understand what the hell you guys are talking about haha.

Here's mah grill in flat black + clearcoat:

I'm in the process of doing this RIGHT NOW.. and I'm having problems w/ bubbling of my primer.. it keeps doing it in one spot.. KICKIN MY A$$.. What kind of technique should I be using? I have Valspar primer and Krylon Gloss and Krylon clearcoat.. should I be using something else? Do you HAVE to use duplicolor?

And how do I keep it from bubbling? Do I sand the primer areas back down and just try again? It's consistently in the same spots.. everywhere else is fine.

man.. I got to the LAST STEP.. had 3 coats of primer on.. 6 coats of black... sprayed on coat of clear... PWNED... The clearcoat I had wasn't duplicolor (did this before the last post) and it put some dang PLASTIC looking coating over it, and it dried and looked like leather..

It was PERFECT before the clearcoat..

Now I have duplicolor.. but I also have a JACKED UP GRILLE.. dangit.

Does anyone know of an easy way to rectify this? Do I just let it all dry completely, and resand ALL the paint and primer off and start completely over? Is there an easy way to scrape all that crap off or just use a low grit sand paper?

How long did you wait in between your coat of black and clear coat? I would wait 24 hrs for best results. If the grill has no imperfections, I would try painting the black over it. Make sure you are using a high temperature resistant paint for the black, otherwise overtime it can start to peel.
