Just curious anyone that has the MG2 and did the install themselves.. I found the trunk swap DIY in that forum however just trying to figure out how the trunk pop works before i start... how much wiring I will need to do..

Also planning to badge it after its on so that i can better judge how they will look on the car..

I did mine last thursday and I have the trunk with 03-05 spoiler. It took me a while since I had no idea what I was doing but after I got it all done, it was pretty easy. The biggest pain in the as$ is removing the screws that attach the trunk to the hinges. They are very soft and strip easily, I had to drill the heads out the screw and use new ones. For me, the easiest thing to do was unbolt the trunk hinge from the car and then take off the screws holding the hinge onto the trunk. As for the trunk pop, you remove the the clips from the trunk lock, unbolt the trunk lock from the old trunk and transfer it to the new trunk. You then run the wiring with clips through the new trunk and just connect clips onto the trunk lock. You dont need to do any new wiring, you just use the same wiring with clips. Btw, Im running my trunk with no trunk shocks.

Heres some quick pics taken with my cell phone...

1trueG, Is your MG2 painted black? I just got in from doing a 1st pass on the swap and got stuck on those screws.. remember what size they were so I can go buy some new ones before I drill those out?

Nope, its CF, just looks black because of the lighting and camera phone pictures. I am not sure what size they are since Im at work, but you can always drill the heads out then remove the rest of the screw with some pliers, and take it to your local hardware store. They should be able to tell you the size. I believe the ones I used are about an inch long. Make sure the head is big enough though or else it wont grab the trunk hinges.

You open your trunk, then in the middle you take the little pop off tabs out, then you need to take off the trunk release lever. After that, the piece in the middle will come off and the bottom of your trunk will be exposed. You will then see all the wires and plugs. You just unplug all the plugs. Refer to this, pics dont work for me anymore but the description should help you out...

That was a good practice run for me! I accidentally unplugged the power and I closed my trunk LOL. but all is well now. Now I just have to wait for summer to install all my parts myself.
