Gialla Grill Mod?
Gialla Grill Mod?
Hi everyone, I picked up a Gialla grill from Jack at RB Motoring - made the phone call one day, got it the next. Pretty impressive...
Anyway, i'm trying to figure out a way to bypass that HUGE brace that's smack dab in the middle of the grill. Anyone try anything yet? Obviously the brace is there for a reason, but has anyone come up with something crafty to get around using it?
An autobody friend suggested either expanding foam to lend some rigidity to the frame once the brace is removed. Or perhaps some kind of other filler?
I was just wondering if anyone has attempted something like this? Regardless, i'm going to try to find a way around the brace, i'd just like to know what others have tried - hopefully i'll be able to avoid some mistakes?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Gialla Grill Mod?
I just spray painted that brace matte black then put an Infiniti logo on the grill. The brace isn't really visible after you paint it matte black, especially if you put a logo in front of it. I wouldn't mess with the structural integrity of the grill by removing that brace.

I'm with ryanbeppu///I haven't changed mine, but if he wants to change his, lets help him
I would think that you would still need some sort of support, but the bottom line is that the gialla grill is barely nothing...it's a ring of plastic. I realized this when I installed my impul bumper...the gialla isn't held down by much, because it's basically just decoration. It's 4 clips and tape.
So here is what I was thinking, if you drilled out the bottom to directly attach to the bumper (instead of 2 sided tape) you would be reinforcing the strength of the piece from top and bottom. The grill doesn't need to support any weight...it just needs to make a seal with the top of the hood. I would use the same type of clips as the top or something similar so it's easier to remove. Attaching it might be a bitch...but maybe there is a way to leave the mesh open at the bottom until it's in place and then bend the pins back to hold it down once the bottom is clipped in place.
Maybe some weather striping / foam under the grill between that and the bumper? The spacing on the gialla is slightly off from the stock grill anyway because it doesn't really clip in at the bottom.
Finally, and I think I may do this now that I think about it: what about 2 smaller connecting rods at either end, maybe 3-4 inches from the side? I would think something stainless or painted, but a billet tie rod would look good with my silver coupe
I would put these outside of the grill, in front of the mesh.
Hopefully one of those works for you, or at the least inspires you to invent something else. Like all aftermarket body kits, make sure you lots of zip ties ready

I agree with GX9901 when he said: "I wouldn't mess with the structural integrity of the grill by removing that brace."
From my picture, you can see that I had the Infiniti emblem gold plated, and mounted it to that metal piece. My Gialla grill came with the center metal piece covered in black plastic, and does not show through the black mesh grille.

Done Deal
Hi again everyone, just had the Gialla grill painted and installed today. We bypassed the center brace by "pop riveting" the bottom portion of the grill to the bumper. The rivets take the place of the double stick tape that Gialla relied upon. In essence the rivets will help to hold the frame of the grill in place, should the plastic try to warp or bow some day down the road... And let me tell you, it looks quite a bit smoother without that huge brace smack dab in the middle of the grill.
Thanks to all who shared their thoughts on this one.

Re: Done Deal
The pop riveting approach would have prevented any future flexibility of releasing the top tabs and bending out the Gialla grille to install super-loud Italian air horn behind the grille. Here is the air horn that was installed.
