Removing Paint From Taillights

The owner of my G before me painted the tails.
He got into a wreck, car is salvage, and now I need to get the CHP check that he never got.

I'm kind of in a bind though because the front windows are tinted, and the tails are painted.

I'm wondering if there's any way I can remove the paint from the tails without melting away the plastic.

I'm not sure if the stock red is on the in or outside of the plastic,
but I suppose I wouldn't mind getting rid of the red altogether if that's the worst case scenario.

Anyways, to my knowledge, removing the black paint without melting the plastic away can't be done but that's why I'm asking.

Thank you :]
