OP: thats what was done to my trunk to achieve that look.
to answer your question most people think its plain cf if no lights hitting it...then when they get closer and see it from a different angle they notice the paint.

I would paint it body color, but that's just me.

One thing to note is that the OEM hood is very smooth and even.

If you paint carbon fiber, make sure the guy at the shop knows how to prep carbon fiber for paint, or the end result will look as if you were looking for a cheap fix after a collision.

The key step to make the painted carbon fiber hood look good is that painter sand down the hood with 800 grit sandpaper. This will smooth out the polymer. You can follow this step by sanding the hood again with 1000 grit sandpaper. It will look very smooth if you do that. But if you don't want to step down to using 1000 grit after sanding with 800, you don't have to. The sanding marks caused by the 800 grit sandpaper can be filled by a layer of primer.

OP: If you want to paint it, you can. It will come out looking like an OEM hood once its done, if prepped correctly. I paint my cf hood and my car is IP, you can't see any of the weaves under it.
