is there a way to make the headlamps clear

Has anyone ever taken the orange out of the headlight assembly successfully? A friend of mines tried to but ended up melting the plastic before it got separated, good thing it was a spare.

Re: is there a way to make the headlamps clear

well i see you are a newb to this forum, as am I. I read the forums for a LONG time before i decided to create an account. I posted some 3 times before, and NO one answers. Conclusion: they dont help noobs

I have read the answer to your question though, and since i dont approove people being so mean towards newly registered users, I can help you out.

To take the orange thing, you must cook your headlight in the oven to make the glue of your headlight melt... Use the search, you will find many answers.

No, we used a haet gun. It probably burned because the heat wasn't spread out evenly. Will baking it inadvertantly melt any other pieces. (what temp do i bake it).

you tried to use a heat gun on the outside?? I'm surprised it didn't start to melt anything else.

I've used a heat gun in the past and it's my preferred method. trick is to keep it moving and slowly and evenly warm up the seam. point it in one place too long and it'll melt, just keep it moving and take your time. it'll take maybe 3 to 5 minutes before the adhesive is soft enough to remove.

i did it on my Maxima headlights. baked it in oven at 250 for about 8-10 min. then take a flat head screwdriver or butter knife and start spreading the two halfs apart.

I then went to Home Depot and bought some Malibu outdoor light lenses and drilled out the lens to the size of the orange one.

dont melt the thing....not over a fire or something...use a hair dryer...those work good but the thing is if you have like 2 or 3 of them plugged in then sometimes you will short the fuse box...

Why?

Why would you want to do this? I have Xenon lights--its cool, it lights the road. Not "clear" on this one.

First you have to but your headlights in the oven and pry it apart. Since the amber reflector isnt removable by simply snapping it off, you have to carefully dremel it out. Some members have tried it and have been successful. I plan to do it also when i get the chance.

Texan....they are wanting to get rid of the US Goverment, Federally mandated, DOT required......Orange turnsignal lens. LOL

A word of caution.....I read an article the other week about a pending lawsuit from a traffic accident.
The person at fault had a "Fast & Furious" type modded auto. The point of the lawsuit was that the insurance company denied paying the claim since the driver had modified his turn signals, headlights/taillights, and they did not meet legal DOT requirements! That would suck big ones!
Something to consider.....Insurance Companies look for any loopholes possible.
I'll see if I can dig the article up.
