Need help for tips to remove the trim piece around the clock

Help! I've read about 5 threads that say pull it out toward you, not up toward the windshield. Got it, but how do you grip the thing? Mine is way slippery and I cant find an edge to get my fingers under. Any tips to help out, I know it can't be this hard!

EDIT: Sorry, it's a 2003 G35 sedan

Use a thin wooden ruler and pry it carefully, go around the trim one by one.

I just used a screw driver to lift it up gradually on each side from the bottom.

Joking aside, you could probably even just get it up with your finger, its just 4 clips.... a screwdriver might help a little but becareful....
