Fender Roll from HELL
Fender Roll from HELL
Anyone else with horror stories please post! Comments encouraged!
Just recently put a stagered set (19x8.5 front, 20x10 back) of MRR Design GT1 wheels on my 2003 G sedan thinking I would have no problem with rubbing but I was sadly mistaken. If I were not so worried about cutting up my tires I would have rented the eastwood roller and heat gun and done the work myself. Instead I took it up to the only custom shop in the dayton area, Fatt Boyz, thinking they would have plenty of experience and the Price was decent.
I was told to expect my car back in two hours so I waited around and watched as the G was in and out in less than 30 minutes . I immediately went and checked the work . I felt the inner fender which was wavy as hell and to my surprise tons of paint was chipping off and the fender was only partially rolled. Keep in mind this is the first time I have ever had my fender rolled so I didnt think much of it untill I noticed I was still rubbing.
After looking at a few pictures online I decieded to take it back the next day and have it rolled flush and to talk to the owner about the fact that there was no heat used and all together it looked like a rushed job that ultimately caused more damage to my paint than it was worth.
The owner of the shop tried to tell me that unless I had a BMW or Mercedes I was almost guaranteed paint chipping when rolling the fenders not to mention that it was physically IMPOSSIBLE to roll the fenders flat with the roller and he would have to use a hammer to make it flush. LIES!
I laughed and told the guy Im no idiot and that I have seen plenty of successfull roll jobs that didnt destroy the car. I even mentioned that It looked like it was done with a baseball bat or the fact that I could have done a better job with one. I also stressed the fact that when I felt the fender I could tell NO heat was used like it was supposed to and that this could all have been avoided if they were to take their time and use heat. Keep in mind they never even Mentioned that my paint might flake off . No warning whatsoever .
After a couple heated discussions I asked the owner to do something about the paint and put undercoat or something in there . The best he was willing to do was make a suggestion and tried to sell me a can of undercoat .
This pisses me off that they can actually run their shop like this and still be in business.
Three days later and I already have rust developing in the wheel well.
I plan to Sand , undercoat, use OEM paint to go over the black undercoat and be done with it. Should I do a layer of clear coat also?
I personally know the CEO of the BBB in this area so I will be submitting a review soon.

Also any suggestions as to where I should get paint would help. Will two of the Touch up pens be enough paint if I use the supplied brush ? A spray can would be best but cant seem to find Desert platinum in a can....
Thanks and have a nice day everyone!

I've never once cracked paint on a Nissan or Infiniti.
Let everyone know that that shop has no idea what the hell they are doing and they are liars.
That's a cold roll, Only mickey mouse shops would call that a roll.
Post up on all your local forums and any other way to make them look bad. Shops like that **** me off.
What did they charge you for it btw?

This won't work, any shop that isn't qualified for paint, is not liable for paint damages when asked to work on painted surfaces....
Sometimes getting a letter from a laywer is incentive enough for a shop to pony up.
Some shops don't though, a shop dumb enough to be called fatboys I would think doesn't lol
Oh and I forgot to mention that his son is the one who did the job . It's pretty obvious that poor workmanship and morals run in the family...
That picture doesn't even compare . I'll try and get a few pictures up tonight...
I would get a lawyer but seeing that I would end up paying more to go to court I'm just going to take care of it myself. I don't ever want that fatt boy around my car. I learned my lesion...
What's funny is that the owner obviously named the shop after himself...
